Just got my RNS510 delivered :happy2:
I understand I need an aerial adapter, is that correct? If so where do I get one from?
Also, doesn't look like the unit came with the security card, will it work without it?
Finally, are there any install guides around?
-
You will need an aerial adapter
Either eBay or VW, but ensure it is genuine
The part number you will need is 7L6 051 551 and its RRP ex VAT is £24.17
As for the security card, no - you will need to code in order to initialise the unit. Have a look on the unit to see if its got a sticker with a 4 digit number on it as sellers sometimes put this on there.
Install guides...
Theres a really good guide here :- http://www.vwgolf.net.au/showthread.php?704-DIY-RNS510-Install (http://www.vwgolf.net.au/showthread.php?704-DIY-RNS510-Install)
You will need to code the car to accept and RNS510 if you dont have an MFD2 at present by enabling 37- Navigation on the CAN installation list

ta, got in touch with the seller and the code is on top.
Just found this guide and it mentions different part numbers for the aerial adapters, are there different one?

Ah good. Remember to remove it from the unit and write it down somewhere safe, or its a thieves for the taking
As for the part numbers, use the one I have given you.
The part numbers there refer to different connections mainly used on the earlier GTIs which have a different radio setup, whereas the newer ones (such as yours with a K gateway) have the more modern beige and white connectors with the newer style terminal which the dedicated adapter is for
Plus its important to note that unless the proper adapter is used, AM radio and TMC will not work properly

will do, i'll get the lead tomorrow.
Did you do the moving wire from pin 2 to 3 thing?

-
If you have a cd changer or an iPod dock on the current HU, then yes youll definately need to swap the 2 to 3 pin over or the sound will be distorted :happy2:
-
Not sure what I have tbh, it's a loose ipod cable in the armrest, not a dock. I'm sure i'll see when I remove the old unit
-
Hmm might be an aux lead
Could you change track on the HU or did you have to change it on the iPod?
-
Not tried it tbh, only had the car 2 days.
-
Ah fair play
With regard to your gateway, just try the RNS and see if itll work as it might save you 100!
