Title: Dude...Where's my car!!
Post by: gulfstream11 on May 12, 2011, 12:08:12 pm
After reading the awful threads on here and other forums, its happened to me.

Got up 7am to an empty drive..Back door had its locks blown and the keys taken..Never heard a bloody thing.S Yorks police have an idea who the local gang is and are searching the normal haunts.Turns out they are stolen, especially GTI's Audi's,hidden for a couple of days then its off to whoever.

My wife and I spoke about this months back and took the decision to leave the keys downstairs. We did,nt want to have them upstairs in case they came up for them.Like anybody on here I would have put up a fight and the outcome could well be unfavourable to say the least.

Good point... Petrol light came on last night, plan was to sort it this morning..Bonus full tank wedge in my pocket.

Bad point.. All my damn Golfing gear was in the boot..(my fubar)

So... keep a look out for a white GTI the Doncaster area..I don,t know of any others.. YT08 EAC   round mk5golfgti sticker in the rear window.

Keano. You live in the next street to me... be vigilant mate...

sh*t! I'm so sorry to hear that mate! I'll keep my eyes peeled!

Luckily I'm in my house in Sheffield during the week, but I'll give the parents a call now.

On a positive note though. Maybe the Audi is coming quicker than you thought?

Dont let a couple of scum bags decide what you drive round in. Get the S3 and leave the keys in the same place. Thats what insurance is for. Just get a bit of security like cameras so they get caught.

Gutted for you mate, you can sleep easy knowing that it'll take a while to catch these guys....however if you speed, tailgate someone, or maybe even run without tax for a week till you get paid they will catch you instantly!   :fighting:
Apologies for rant about poor quality policing lol, hope you get everything sorted out mate!

Exactly right, don't let the ba$tards grind you down.
As said, consider added security, daft as it is (and know this won't really help or make you feel any better) I use a full steering lock.
What sort of door was it that they broke in through? I did a method of entry  course at work on how to break down doors, and the same week I had all my UPVC ones taken out and replaced with composite (like the council house ones)
Have even considered the locking bollards at the end of my drive. Anything that makes the scumbags go down the road and take the chavs yellow Leon FR instead of mine.

Keep your head up, it may turn up.
Were police told that it didn't have much petrol in? may be involved in a bilking soon if it didn't have much left.

The door is a standard UPVC number.Plate aside the keyhole is lifted. Then with some mogrips you twist the lock. This snaps it in half. You remove the outside half leaving the inside one intact.Screwdriver thru the hole, quick turn and your in.PC says it was probably 30secs max.

Security will be upgraded soon,(stabledoor/horse).Also the garage will be cleared out,its rammed with my surfboards, snowboard, bikes etc etc. That will be upgraded too.

I told the police it is empty with a probable 35 miles range on the tank.I also told them it was stage 1,his partner lit up at that statement and said the EVO/Suburu boys will smarten that up.
Apparantly last month a high end Audi was stolen from my area, big car chase the end result.. a written off Audi..I requested no surveillence if found but got told that was.nt my call.If they find the car they wait for them then pull em up when they drive off.Yeah right, fat chance of them stopping.Just discreetly follow for 30 miles I said, job done.

I won't allow them to get me down.I just want my fellow members to realise that it could happen to you.

Man horrible news really is! Makes me think I shouldn't leave my keys on the ledge just to the side of my front door!

Just spoken to dad about maybe getting a camera installed on the drive, probably wont put these f***ers off though!

Real feel for you mate! insurance paying out or does it have to be a certain length of time etc?

Really sorry to hear about your situation dude  :sad1:

Thankfully no-one was hurt etc in the robbery. Cars are easily replaced  :happy2:
Few years back, my house got broken into and the person actually came upstairs snooping around whilst family was in bed, wife woke up and actually seen the person walking around on the upstairs landing just outside the room where our niece was sleeping in but on the lucky side, we have rottweilers that are very protective, once commanded they chased the person back downstairs and out the window they came in.

Nothing ever came back regarding it  :sad1:

Just shows how many Fu*king Ar*eholes are out there, sickens me  :sad1:

I would shoot everyone of them if I had the chance, well kinda lol
In my job I'm expected to fight wars and kill terrorists etc and all that jazz meaning I'm doing a good thing but then if someone breaks into my house and threatens my family and I hurt them, its against the law, Fu*king pathetic!

Rant Over  :signLOL:

Hopefully you'll receive news soon dude  :happy2:

Sorry to heart that Gulf! Little S**ts!

Hope they catch the guys soon.

We almost had a close call last year, although they didn't come upstairs like with MJR!

Some guys broke into our house, removed fencing panels in the garden then removed a whole upvc/glass frame from the conservatory window (without any damage what so ever) and came into the house at 1am!
I must have scared them off as I came out of my shower. Saw muddy footprints in the living room not long after.

We have 4 IR NV cameras covering the house perimeter, showed them scouting the front drive and the door. Unfortunately footage wasn't too useful as they had their faces covered.

Luckily nothing was stolen, garden security has been beef'd up and keys locked in the office. Could have easily turned out much worse  :scared:

Really sorry to read this

On a related issue a major weakness of any house is UPVC doors (if fitted ) and i recommend to everyone else reading this to have anti bump/ snap locks fitted (a two minute job for anyone) plus special security handles too if possible.

Sorry to here buddy, lets hope they have a quick end :booty: the little scrouts.

Regards the security on my patio doors I have a lockable sash lock(I think thats what they are) they are on the top and bottom and one on the side in the middle so they can not pull the hinge open...I also have security gates on the front and back :happy2: I know it looks like a drug dealers house but at least my keys are safe,

Then again there not going anywhere fast in my car with a blown turbo

Once again.Thank-you to everybody for the kind remarks.

Just got off with the insurance,I was a bit worried as I had just renewed with Greenlight and not my normal insurers.

The contents is only covered upto £100.Which go's nowhere near the cost of the items in the boot.

If the car is not found they will pay-out the market value of the car. What is the forum members best quote for a 32000 mile 08 GTI in mint condition? :chicken:

really sorry to hear this mate. makes me sick. they tried getting in my house twice since x-mas using the same methods. the weak point is the euro-locks that are fitted we've now had anti snap ones fitted at £160 each but worth the security im sure you'd agree.

Hope they catch the little scumbags

REALLY sickening to hear, hate reading these threads.

Maybe Im being stupid and brave but Ive worked too bloody hard and spent too much time and spent too much money on my car to just let someone walk in and take it like candy from a baby. Ive thought long and hard and both my keys stay in my room. Its not going without a fight.

Silly. . maybe.

I couldnt agree more with what others have said about letting it stop it from getting another nice car. Dont let these mugs win.

Still no word form the force, they gave it a 3 day lead time before its gone.

Had my ST stolen in a similar way - on the one day ever I left my keys downstairs. Still take my keys for the replacement GTI upstairs these days. Hard to say if a fight would occur or not - depends how old they are. The guys that took mine were teenage scrotes and didn't have a reputation for doing anything other than hunting around downstairs. The police didn't think they would have bothered to come upstairs as they were stealing for joy ride only, and it wasn't worth the higher jail term.
Wouldn't risk my life to fight for it - but I'm not leaving them on a plate downstairs.

If I was at home more often, I'd invest in some of the security measures photographed above, :-)

As a few others here I keep the keys in my room. I’m not necessarily going to fight as it’s not worth loosing your life over a car but I have spent my hard earned cash on it so not going to leave it on a plate for the ‘oxygen thieving b@s!tards’

I feel your pain mate!!!
I had my Type R stolen a couple of months ago (only had it 3 1/2 weeks)
Same situation, front door wide open at 5am when I got woke up by the cat jumping on the bed.
Ended up getting the car back after a month or so but doesnt feel the same + it was worth 2k less than I paid for it in Feb
On the plus side, I am picking up a 5 door CW GTi on Saturday as a replacement, think GAP insurance will be purchased this time.

On a side note does anyone know if GAP insurance covers you for depreciation if u get the car back???
