You all know what a standard one looks like so i've just posted a pic of how mine looks at the moment
Need to sort out some more pics but for now this is it :signLOL:
Thanks
Dave
-
Looks good - need to get some paint on the bottom of that rear bumper tho!
Still cant believe VW thought that an acceptable way to send the car out - it just looks unfinished.
-
Thanks Ant
Yeah couldn't agree more about the lower bumper! Not so noticable on a black car but still should've been standard from the factory. Colour coding is definitely on my list of things i've got left to do :happy2:
-
What wheels are those? look insane! Massive dishing.
What work have you done on it other than what we can see in that picture?
-
They are calibre vintage wheels that i had fitted on friday. Had to wait ages for them and especially for the rears to be made in blanks and drilled to fit, they are 18x8 at the front and 18x9 on the rear running 215/40/18 tires all round
Dave
-
Done pretty much all the engine and performance mods already and was enjoying driving round with the standard 17 monzas but needed to get the suspension and wheels sorted out.
So far its running: stage 2+, non res miltek TBE, forge DV, autotech HPFP, ITG intake, KW V1 coilies :driver:
-
Very nice, I do like the calibre vintage alloys, looked at them myself.
Bet it is a close one with the 9's on the back?
-
Thanks Al
So far so good in terms of rubbing, that pic was with the old wheels and suspension in the boot so its a tiny bit higher than that and more level now its settled a bit.
Was at japfest yesterday and saw some in 17s with red painted centres
Can't wait to get to some VW shows this year
-
Mmmm... nice rimmage! :innocent:
-
Lovely wheels and stance Dave :happy2:
-
First rim joke :signLOL: well done beck!
Thanks Pete, i didnt recognise my own car when they drove it out the workshop :surprised:
-
Luuuuuurve the wheels! I wouldn't want to clean them though!
-
Thanks Golfgirl  thank god tesco was doing 3 for 2 on toothbrushes!! :pomppomp:
-
Took a few pics of my car on my phone to show more of it than just the rear

Its currently lowered about 40mm and TBH it might need to go a little lower but for now i havent got any issues with rubbing or clearance and was playing safe as i've got some monster speed humps and pot holes around my way.
Thanks for looking
Dave

Been a long time since i've updated my build thread :ashamed:
Mainly been cosmetic changes with one or two handling mod's and some toys inside too :signLOL:
Finally managed to get hold of an ED30 rear valance, R32 side skirts and ED30 front splitter :pomppomp:
Mounted my plates on the wolfsburg surrounds front and rear and swapped my tail lights over to a set of darker R32 ones
Had an RNS510 fitted which is by far one of best sat-navs i've used and soooooo much faster at pin pointing location at startup
Also got an autotech rear ARB fitted on the medium setting which really suprised me how much of an improvement through the corners it made :driver: got WALK on the way so with that fitted too my handling mods should be complete :signLOL: famous last words i know
Excuse the crappy car park phone pics but here's how it's looking now.....

Thanks mate
Got the wheels from R-tec in st albans back last may, can't remember the exact price as i got them in a deal with tyres and suspension  it should be a bit cheaper now tho as they got the rears made in blanks and then had to drill them for my car
Dave

Cheers man! Also what offset are they? ET35 all round?
-
Tbh I'm not 100% I know it's low 30s.... Give them a call to double check or check out the calibre website for the specs, it is low for a mk5
Dave
-
Finally got my WALK in the post today after a bit of a delay along with some W0503 front control arm bushes
Can't wait to get these fitted and go find some nice twisty roads to try them out :driver:
Dave
-
Got the WALK and W0503 front bushes fitted today along with the powerflex dog bone insert and at first didn't think it had made much of a difference until i looked down at the speedo to see the extra speed i was carrying into corners :driver: definitely feels alot tighter all round now and seems to hug the road even more than before
I was loosing my nerve before the car was understeering when i pushed the car some more to test it out
Gear changes feel more positive too so looks like the insert has done its job or might just be in my head :signLOL:
Had some ECS sub frame bolts and spacers put on too as last time when i had some other work done they noticed i had a 1/4 turn in the bolts so did this incase they had stretched slightly :happy2:
Dave
-
Hi mate,
liking your car ,i have a black three door myself that i have had two weeks and have noticed lower part of my back bumper is colour coded, one less thing to do..i am after similar wheels to yours as they really set the car off..yours looks wicked.. :happy2:

Thanks mate  always loved the old bbs style wheels on older golfs and I'm happy how it's turned out
Result with your rear valance being already painted more money to spend on other bits and pieces :happy2:
Dave

Not really done much to my car in recent months apart from enjoying driving it :driver:
But had been looking at getting a mk6 GTI steering wheel and fortunately Omeydz was selling a Scirocco R wheel with the black inserts, steering controller and everything needed to supply and fit
Before my drive to Omar this morning
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fz396%2FLittle_Dave%2F13082012447.jpg&hash=05d94e051936ca170404781170be4e64f727bc60)
Before i set off home after having everything fitted and coded

Really happy with the difference it makes to my interior and driving experience and can't recommend Omar enough :drinking: top bloke
Dave
-
Your car in and out looks really good mate
Need to get this steering wheel
If you don't mind me aking how much would I be looking for everything fitted and coded
Billy
-
Like that a lot, very subtle changes but make the world of difference :happy2:

Thanks mate
Prices vary depending on how much extra's you need apart from the wheel itself i.e. air bag, steering controller module, slip ring, cruise stalk, fitting and coding etc only once you know what you'll need will you get an idea of the total cost but £500ish would be a rough idea
Dave

Thanks :drinking:
Possibly looking at Highline and maybe xenon's next :signLOL: really need to stop coming on here and you lot giving me ideas :stupid:
Dave
-
Thanks dave :happy2:
-
Xenons are a must, i have only recently got them and i wont be turning back. Highline is a good thing to have aswell. Will work great with your new toy
-

Tbh i've almost taken the plunge on a few sets of Xenon's but the MOT scare a while back talking of failure to pass with a lack of self levellers and washers kinda put me off....... atleast until it's made crystal clear if it's gonna cause me a headache in the future :happy2:
Did you just fit the Xenon's and kufatec adapter looms or the whole hog with washers/levellers etc??
Highline for me would be a nice thing to add to my car, not a must have, but like you say is more tempting now i've got some buttons to play with
Dave

love the wheel

Cheer mate :drinking:
Been debating getting bluetooth in my car and a few days ago got an iphone 4s
Can anybody whose got an iphone 4s and a 5KO bluetooth car kit comfirm it all works ok? Been reading threads saying not all bluetooth kits work with iphones, if you've got a different bluetooth kit working in your car with an iphone which one do you use?
thanks
Dave
-
So got the 5KO bluetooth kit, supplied by Eddie, fitted today by Omeydz :pomppomp:
Very nice bit of kit and fully working as we weren't sure if i'd get all the functions due to having an older CAN gateway fitted and running revised firmware on my RNS to prevent battery drain
Anyone thinking of getting one i can fully recommend it as it's a great addition and alot easier to use than mucking about with bluetooth headsets
Dave

new mk6 looks great can be pricey tho mate cant they ?
-
hi dave, can i ask what does it cost to get the skirts colour coded all round the car, and i assume it is done on the car apposed to parts being removed,,, love your car,,, looks like you have spent a fortune on it, do you use a garage to do all the work or do you do a lot yourself ?
cause im looking at your pics and thanking - thousands - thousands - thousands, like your stearing wheel also - pity the little gti badge has gone from it though
-

Hi Scott thanks for the kind words :drinking:
All the colour coded bits on my car have replaced the originals, i got hold of an ed30 front spoiler and rear valance plus r32 side skirts, all the parts were painted and then fitted to the car i dont think many places would do it with them attached to your car and if you were getting the original parts colour coded they would need to be smoothed for painting anyway
I've done some of the smaller mods myself but all of the serious work was done at a couple of garages local to me, as for what its cost me i dont think i wanna know
The steering wheel is the golf R/scirocco R version with the black button surrounds so its missing the little R badge which i could replace quite easy but my car isnt an R so im happy to leave that way
Dave

Went to see omeydz on Saturday to get some R32 highline clocks fitted and coded
Went from this
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fz396%2FLittle_Dave%2Fimage_zpsa921143e.jpg&hash=d385b3a883995779e86ae70afe9540fcb760e83a)

All coded into my steering wheel and sat nav
The needles look soooo good at night and the difference from midline to highline is well worth the upgrade :happy2:
Thanks again Omar :drinking: top guy and very professional highly recommended
Dave
-
Thanks again Dave :happy2: !!!
-
Big improvement mate! :happy2:
-
Awesome! Omar are you a trader/fitter or just awesome with your hands haha. Something id love to have done once ive got my mk5 :P
-
Thanks guy's im really pleased with how its turned out
Went to see Brookesb32 this morning to pick up and fit a matt black wrapped mk6 tailgate handle
Glad i went to pick it up from Simon as it took the pair of us quite a bit of force and skin off our knuckles removing and refitting the tailgate trim :fighting:
Excuse the filthy crap pic but my car is filthy due to lots of motorway mileage this week :sad1:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fz396%2FLittle_Dave%2Fimage_zps568c7037.jpg&hash=6594b8e0f572dfb043de9d140abfe8acdfc7d43c)
Thanks again Simon for your help :drinking: very tidy red GTI you've got
Hope i havent encouraged you to get some more mods done :signLOL:
Dave
-
Awesome! Omar are you a trader/fitter or just awesome with your hands haha. Something id love to have done once ive got my mk5 :P
Used to do a lot of VW work for a few years but Iv got new commitments so Iv retired to the latter awesomeness
-
Ordered an Audi TTS engine cover from VRSAlex at the start of the week and it turned up today so went about fitting it to my car
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fz396%2FLittle_Dave%2Fimage_zpsa74b9950.jpg&hash=d5b26a93043085e0f31902e55830bc7c808eec7d)
Very easy to fit and remove and think it smartens up an otherwise messy engine bay
Dave
-
Finally some nice weather to get my car cleaned that lasts more then a few days before its filthy again :signLOL:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fz396%2FLittle_Dave%2Fimage_zps7165e8fa.jpg&hash=9bd3d5a1b83ffbb3e0e03b9a06b444fa5ba11e86)
Had a new votex rear valance fitted recently, with the cut out for the exhaust, to replace my cracked ed30 one
I'll get some pictures up but I'm definitely preferring it over what I had before
Dave
-
She's looking good as ever Dave :happy2:
Anymore mods in the pipeline?
-

Yo Dave, looking good :happy2:
Why don't you pop over this Saturday to the RR session
http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,67708.msg739223.html#new
-
Exams this week and next week so wish me luck!!
-
Had a few things done today as my car wasn't running the best and had developed a metallic rattle from underneath the car :surprised:
Turned out I had a crack in my down pipe probably caused by excessive movement of the engine as I'm still running standard engine mounts and have been hitting the 1/4 mile strips quite hard the past year or so :driver:
Also had quite a rough idle that has steadily been getting worse and seems to have been cured by getting a new revision N PCV fitted today :happy2:
To try and help with this hot weather I had a service on my air conditioning and its made a big difference making it a lot colder on the low setting and getting to that temperature a lot quicker than it did before :pomppomp:
Got the car booked in for a full set THS engine mounts as a result as I didn't want to put standard OEM ones on and the harsher stiffer ones seem to be unbearable to live with according to people's reviews
Dave
-
Mind me asking how much the engine cover cost?
-
Looks smart
-
Mind me asking how much the engine cover cost?
Think it was about £100 if i remember right, including the 3 pegs you mount it on..... Give Alex a bell at AKS for the exact cost :happy2:
Dave

Thanks Chris :drinking:
Dave

Very nice car do you have pictures of the rear valance, I really want ideas to sort my horrible black plastic one!
-
Very nice car do you have pictures of the rear valance, I really want ideas to sort my horrible black plastic one!
Try and sort some out the next time I've got a clean car :happy2:
Dave
-
So a few weeks on from getting my PCV replaced and I'm happy to say its improved the lumpy idle considerably so money well spent :happy2:
Had a full set of THS engine mounts fitted today and so far I'm very impressed :driver:
Everything feels so much tighter and whilst the old OE mounts that came off weren't completely buggered its like night and day :pomppomp:
Gear change feels crisper and a lot more direct and feels like the biting point of the clutch has risen slightly, which is the only point at which I feel any extra vibration as I pull away, which will no doubt settle down a little once they have some miles on them and can definitely notice that the engine is not moving like it was before.
Might sound funny but the engine also sounds different, in a good way thank god :signLOL: the ITG sounds more aggressive and my exhaust note a little better too :jumpmove:
Was worried about getting these fitted over standard mounts and glad I took advice and steered clear of solid ones, these are a great middle option and have made a big improvement to the drivability of my car :notworthy:
Dave
-
Drove up to AKS yesterday with mvb12 to get his Porsche stoppers finally fitted
Jussa dropped off his RS3 brakes for a test fit then took me for a ride in his car :driver: bloody mental :notworthy:
Turned out to be an expensive day for me :signLOL:
Just went along for a mini meet and ended up buying Alex's last big brake set
Getting some team dynamics pro 1.2s and Goodyear as2's to replace my current wheels as there's no chance of getting those brakes on otherwise
Hopefully back at AKS next weekend to get them fitted as long as I can get the wheels and tires sorted in time :popcornsoda:
Dave
-
Nice one dave :happy2:
Be able to get the power down too :happy2:with the goodyears
-
New wheels and tyres were fitted today and I'm very pleased so far :pomppomp:
Can't wait for the tyres to scrub in as they feel very good already :driver:
Bit of a delay getting my new brembo 4 pots fitted but hopefully be in the next week or so once Alex has everything in place
Dave
-
Need some picsss soon!!!
-
Quick picture taken after my new wheels had been fitted

Already feeling a lot more grip with the goodyear eagle F1 AS2's compared to the falken 452s I had on before :driver: and that's before they've scrubbed in so really happy
Dave
-
I do like the 1.2's. The more I see them the more I want some haha.
-
ended up buying Alex's last big brake set

Nothing more to be said except for watch this space

Ok so I headed up to AKS to get one of his brembo big brake kits fitted today
Whilst up in the air I set about tidying up my rusty rear bells on my rear discs while Alex disassembled my front brakes
With the wheels off I was faced with this
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fz396%2FLittle_Dave%2Fimage_zps9ad968dd.jpg&hash=36c145598d267ec05418f31c164fcdcb8320b1b2)
Which after some elbow grease with some steel wool ended up looking like this
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fz396%2FLittle_Dave%2Fimage_zps360306d6.jpg&hash=cfa14c31e8a377da88fc0b47f1c5d8ee4cc6e2f8)
Then applied a single coat of hammerite smooth black and this is how it looked
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fz396%2FLittle_Dave%2Fimage_zpse56b7e31.jpg&hash=e7b29500f8588ad86de91c7db73e6ce574c67027)
And with the wheel back on it looks a lot better
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fz396%2FLittle_Dave%2Fimage_zps5c22bc4b.jpg&hash=b6f14dfb4a93d6337d395b1701b7afdf93ddb654)
During this time Alex had stripped down the front brakes leaving a nice big hole
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fz396%2FLittle_Dave%2Fimage_zps42cebc9e.jpg&hash=34ef60f54b066eb2c47e264ab78f813bf09a1a6e)
This set of brakes ended up being a bit different from the other sets Alex has sold with the red brembo calipers

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fz396%2FLittle_Dave%2Fimage_zps19605c62.jpg&hash=8672062bcef3e730a5a2b4c323d8dbc4c6c3de47)
Some very tasty brembo 4 pots from an Aston Martin DB9
Alex then set about building up the brakes
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fz396%2FLittle_Dave%2Fimage_zpsced58a63.jpg&hash=ee58f77b70a3d4e6ede484bd5fe06cac26f8ab8e)

Everything tightened up and a wheel test fitted to check for clearance issues
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fz396%2FLittle_Dave%2Fimage_zps0f33e5a3.jpg&hash=201fb6f0ad76597c792a07f0142732cdb3bdc2f4)
No problems so the rest of the waiting wheels were refitted
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fz396%2FLittle_Dave%2Fimage_zps52bf3853.jpg&hash=7a5d98e906e88a155e5cf2e351794e2c97284a8d)
And finally a few close ups when the car was on the ground just back from a test drive by Alex

To say I'm impressed is an understatement :driver: fresh out the box and obviously not bedded in yet the power is ridiculous :driver:
Can't wait for them to get even more bite when they've settled in but so far I'm a very happy customer and ended up with something a little bit more unique then I bargain for
Thanks
Dave

:notworthy: is there more brake pedal travel and do you have to up grade the master cylinder
-
Doesn't need the master cylinder upgrading, though I'm sure somebody may say it would benefit but it works amazingly well just bolted on :scared:
Pedal feel is firmer but no more travel but had a brake fluid change too so that would also help the feel a lot I'm guessing

Looking positively wickeddd!!!!!
