Hi Tom,

I may be wrong but i think if its stopped working its usually because water has got into the brake unit and knackered the LED's. Mine stopped working a while back and its a very expensive fix if you take it to a dealer, believe they need to cut off the spoiler and bond a new one back on and re spray the rear about £400 iirc  :scared:

Some people i've seen in posts on here have done it by cutting out the brake unit themselves, using a drill and trim removal tools, which is an option if your out of warranty.

This is the way to do it.The new light assembly just clips in, rather then the 2 fastening screws the old light assembly used.

Don't have the spoiler removed ..

I have just found a thread on another gti forum with step by step instructions on how to do it, so hopfuly that shall fix it,

Could it be anything else as i have never noticed water in it and my rear wiper is not conected atal so no washer fluid getting in from the sprayer

Thanks
Tom

Its usually from the washer jet but in your case its probably just run off the roof and down behind the spoiler, i imagine it wouldnt take much to bugger the circuit board the LEDs are on so doubt you'd see the brake full of water. I was going to give it a go at replacing mine as i was worried about it failing the MOT but it passed so have left it for now.
