as some of you may be aware, i am trying to solve my engine noise problem..
some have said it may be chain tensioner.
my car is an 06 and was first registered 17th march 2006... is this AXX or something else? if something else then can the chain tensioner still be an issue?
cheers kieron

At that age could be either I think.
Have a look in the front page of the service book and or under the carpet in the boot. There should be a sticker there with the engine number and it will either be AXX or BWA.
The issue could affect both but its better know to affect the AXX engine, that could just be due to their age though as they were phased out around 2006.

The engine code is normally on a white sticker attached to the top of the cam belt cover.

just checked and it says AXX, then a few numbers.. whats the difference between the AXX and BWA then?

They made some very minor changes so the newer engine complies with a higher emissions standard. Not sure on the details, you'll see some postings saying the newer engine makes more power but this is not true. Not to be confused with the engine found in the ed30's / pirrelli's which DO make more power.

The earlier AXX engines can can also have a one part cam instead of the later two part cam and a softer cam follower for the fuel pump
