Title: Fitted the new wheels :)
Post by: snapey on March 11, 2009, 05:50:32 pm
From this:

to this:

Big improvement in my opinion and the car rides much softer on the motorway now :) God knows how but I'm not complaining.

Although can't help but think its sitting a bit high at the back but its dropped a bit more since its been brimmed.

And the font:

Pictures don't do them justice, hell of a lot more shiny and the back colour really stands out.

Wow that's clean.
Were the photos taken just after you fitted the wheels? Sometimes it takes a good few miles for the suspension to drop back down to it's proper height.
Mind you your car looks like it sits higher than mine.

Its settled a bit more now since its been out a bit, seems about the same as the front now but it gives me an excuse to get it dropped a bit

Looks great mate. What did you do with your standard wheels? I'm thinking about swapping my 17" monzas to 18". Just wondered how much 17" monzas are worth?

There in the garage under a blanket, when it comes to winter their going back on to save the faces and when it gets sold the 17's are going with the car, and their always there in case of an emergency.

Laserblue, I'm interested! What make tyres are on your 18"s and are they excellent cond wheels. My 17" are excellent on my 07 GTI, although front tyres are legal, but will need replacing soon. PM me!

Looks great, what a difference the dark finish inside the wheels makes - they look huge compared to 17"s

What's the going rate for Monza IIs with/without tyres? If the right car comes up with only 17"s, this mod is high up on my list.

Also, you say it's improved the ride - are the tyres the same brand as the 17" ones? What did you put on the 18"s in terms of width/profile?

Does it feel any slower off the mark with larger wheels?

And does anyone know if there are any VCDS settings that need to be changed when you change wheels i.e. Speedo settings etc. or are they effectively the same overall size as the 17" wheels just with lower profile tyres?

Sorry for all the questions... I'd just like to know and this seemed as good a time as any to ask  :ashamed:

No idea on prices but the rolling radius will remain the same so no need for alterations to the speedo etc.

You can pay up to 800 squid for mint Monz'as as they are very rare, most have some curbage or white worm. even if you buy a damaged set for £350 you are looking at  about 400 for a refurb of all four so that takes back up to 800ish.  :chicken:
