After only being at Stg 2+ for a few weeks i think my manual ED30 clutch could already be struggling.
Full diagnostic with PDT booked in for Sat was hoping was just timing or fueling that might need fine tuning but my mate thinks not.
When you put your foor down between 3500-4000 or 4500-5000 the rev counter just jams as if the throttle body is not reacting to the accelerators command; you can hear the turbo still spooling ok but the power cannot be transmiited smoothly through rev range.
Can anyone advise if this does indeed sound like the oem clutch cannot cope with torque? What is the oem clutch rated to?

OEM clutch is rated to 250lb/ft iirc
I had this on my Octavia. However it was a case of put your fut down around 4k rpm and the rev needle would jump to 5.5k rpm and then gradually slow back down as the clutch caught up with itself. I got another OEM one put in and after 7k miles it did it again so i went with a sachs clutch and that was fine with 300lb/ft.
Maybe try a throttle body adaptation if you have access to VCDS.

doesn't sound like clutch slip to me...more like fuel cut!
mine is slipping at the mo albeit lightly...on S1 map @ 320/320
boot it between 3krpm and 4k rpm and you can hear the engine note rises and falls back a bit...matched by the rev counter needle jumping and falling back.
It's had a tough 17k miles i suppose...so an uprated Sachs/Helix jobbie is inevitable. But then i could go S2 / S2+ without worry :signLOL:

mmmm so could be clutch slip or fuel cut, timing out?

As carl said clutch slip will happen when you are at around 4000rpm typically noticable in higher gears when you plant your foot to the floor then the rev needle will jump suddenly higher up the rev counter, the engine will rev but you wont get the response from the car, what your issue sounds like is timing pull.... this could be due to your settings i.e too much ign advance... VCDS should validate this and Dave at PDT will soon find the problem for sure. Typically on stage 2+ alot of people dont have the correct mods....or so it would seem, out of interest Berg what settings are you running?,
i am a firm believer that you need a min of a APR/THS intercooler or an S3/Forge Twintercooler combo with an full TB exhaust inc sports/decat and HPFP, preferably a RS4 fuel pressure valve as well...are you k03 or k04?

cheers flyboy - i am not convinced pipewerx did adequate datalogging after stg 2+ install, hence app with PDT on sat. I am KO4 with 3' downpipe and sports cat, bdm induction kit, and s3 intercooler and Autotech hpfp - have not had full tbe or RS4 valve fitted yet. The twintercooler is something will look at. think settings are B7/T5/F6, will test for clutch slip tonight, hope you are right re settings just need tweaking

did think of that but thought wont be able to smell much at that speed even though did have my head out window ace ventura style :rolleye:
But there was no smell in the car Steve so maybe you are right?
I dont mind it slipping ie was inevitable just need more time to gather pennies before trip to Statllers

If you have a stage 2+, either way, you will need at some soon stage an uprated clutch. If you dont, then you not driving it properly :wink:

Berg i think its possibly the exhaust if you dont have a full system, the pressure could be bottlenecking somewhat and thus causing it to dump some ign retart into the system.... if the settings were lowered to say 6/4/6 you may see a difference with this problem. If you have an SPS dongle just download the software from revo website.
The Rs4 valve is a pig to fit, but the cost is marginal. ive fitted and tuned everything myself on my car as i refuse to let anyone near it lol. ok for what its worth id def say the S3 cooler is ok...but only up to a point, IMO its def worth getting a Twintercooler if money permits, the RS4 valve is a no-brainer as its so cheap. Part number is 079 130 737...available from your local Audi dealer or TPS

Mmmm, not thought of that, well the rest of the tbe can go on without too much bother as not even a 1/4 of the cost for a quaife and sachs. Steve - yes the clutch and quaife will be going on but was hoping to have a while before needed it - if not raid the ISA!
