If you had £14-15k what would you rather have?
Lowish (30-40k) mileage edition 30 in white or a higher milage S3 (50-60k)?
The insurance is slightly cheaper on the S3 and it also has the 4 wheel drive but, the mileage will be higher for the same money!
Can S3's be had for my budget as i've had a look and a lot on pistonheads seem way overpriced :rolleye:
Any help would be much appreciated!

popcorn anyone. :pomppomp:
Don't mind if I do T.C ..... :popcornsoda:
-
Ok... Ill kick things off!
Get the ED30, it has more character.

S3 would be my choice. Good old 4wd! Especially if you're going to tune it and go 300bhp+.
Saying that I do prefer the looks of the Golf.
-
Depends on how you like your car to drive.
S3 is easier to drive quickly, point and squirt, can cover ground stupidly quick on the twisties.
ED30 quicker in a straightline when rolling, more involving drive, progress in the winter can get frustrating.

One Pro for the Edition 30 for me is that it's my favourite Golf from Mk1-Mk6. Where as with the S3 I prefer the facelifts, but they are mega money :sad1:
-
I have an ED30 but would have an S3 at the drop of a hat.
I love my ED30 but I prefer 4WD and I like Audi build quality :popcornsoda:
Sorry!
-
I've had/have both and know which I prefer
-
s tronic sport back only for me..
with my practicality head on...
-
I find myself having to really try to identify the S3 when coming towards me as it doesn't vary that much from some of the s line audi's
Were as you know when you see and ed30 coming the other way! 4wd is good but the price doesn't justify the car for me

Ed 30 is my choice, strictly in the real world here....... Fuel, tyres and road tax are my reasons!
-
sounds like you have already made your mind up, ed30 it is the gti has much better weight and steering feel than the s3 :driver:
-
I've had both of them mate an TBH I can't pick between the two. Point to point the S3 is easier and quicker with a superior build quality and generally better feel. The ED30 feels a lot more focused and more fun to drive although it can get extremely frustrating trying to put the power down! If it was an everyday car I would say the S3, but if you were using it sparingly I would go with the ED :happy2:
