Try a regas first - cheapest option, then if that doesnt work things may start to get expensive!

Definitely try the re gas but knowing how poor the compressor is its quite likely that its failed. I hope for your sake it isn't though as its pretty expensive to sort out.

Good luck.

I would concur with a regas.
If you have access to vcds then a fault scan of your Auto HVAC may help pin point another cause if the regas doesn't help.

Any worthy AC specialist will use equipment that will inject UV dye on a regas and undertake a pressure test once the system is purged before re-gassing. Reputable places will not charge if at that point it fails a pressure test. I was in this position and the uv dye showed that the high pressure switch had failed rather than the compressor. £45 for part plus labour.

main dealers can do it mate, it might be worth going there to start with as they will know where to look right away if its a common fault. sh*tfit will most likely regas, charge u and send u away without making any effort to inspect. Also go careful with an extended warranty to cover you for aircon faults, alot of the time they will argue its damage or corrosion and will try to wriggle out of it, there are some decent warranty compainies out there but there are alot of rubbish ones.

Had my 2005 GT air con fail a few years a go. Cost me about £1300 to have every thing replaced. I was told a stone seemed to have damaged lower a/c radiator allowing all the gas to escape.

£1300 !!!!!! 'Kings hell. Id rather just not have AC and wind the window down than have to pay that, thats a serious repair bill for a bit of cold air.
