Hi Guys
i want to change my rcd300 for a rcd510, after reading up on the battery drain issue i thought id check my Canbus model.
I have a 56 (2007) edition 30 and followed the steps on the My-Gti website. I have removed the cover above the pedals but im pretty sure the canbus isnt there.
Does anyone know is the location is different on an edition 30?
Your help would be much appreciated!

could be here

Mine was in the location under the scuttle access hatch, but being lazy I was sure there would be an easier way.... so I had a look, saw the relay holder unclips, moved it aside, and stuck my hand through the gap to grab and remove the CAN gateway.

That's the way I would do it, can't see any point in taking the scuttle cover off to get to it.

was yours in the same place as above but got to it from above the pedals inside the car?
Thanks

It was in the same place as the CAN gateway in the link. The relay holder (has a relay with 100 printed on it, in the link) unclips, and can be moved aside. Unless you have absolutely enormous hands, it's fairly easy to reach through and grab the gateway.

Found it thanks, had to lower the electronic box thing and remove the HVAC pipe

If it helps I have an 07 2007 ED30 with a 'K' revision canbus.
With an RCD510 I have no battery drain issues so it may be worth trying first before spending money upgrading it.
VCDS will also tell you the canbus revision.
