Getting the rear/lower bumper, side skirts and front spoiler painted tomorrow, but unsure what to get done?
Should i get the inner front coded too or leave it? With the rear, should i get it all done or just the outer?
My cars Reflex Silver btw.

Get the middle exhaust cut out section gloss black and the small lip on the front splitter will look great. They are only small parts but visually make a great look. :happy2:
-
Was actually thinking of doing that, but not brave enough too with out seeing another car done like that!

Had our Reflex Silver colour coded last year and left the front and rear lower sections in the plastic finish .
It looks like it came from the factory like that . I too was thinking of painting these sections black but decided against due to the fact these are the areas that are most likely to get scratched and chipped .
I can send you some pics if you want to see what ours looks like with the top painted and the bottom left .
Whatever you decide upon , it will look a lot better than how they left the factory.
:congrats:
-
Mark post some pics mate as I have a RS and tempted to do the same as the one above, but have gloss black side skrits too?
-
A few of my reflex silver from when I had it colour coded the way you have mentioned

I'm looking to get my trim colour-coded too. I've been looking thru the 'Member's Rides' and was debating whether to get the whole lower bumpers done or leave the lower bits black. After seeing Big Al's I'm leaning towards leaving them black.
What's the most cost-effective way of doing it? I understand that the textured plastic needs to be smoothed and primed. Would it be cheaper to buy ready-primed parts rather than paying to have my existing trim prepared?
Also what's a reasonable price to pay to have the front, rear and skirts done? Sorry for my noob-ishness. :ashamed:
-
I'm looking at getting my front lip spoiler and rear lower part of the bumper (diffuser) vinyl wrapped in matt black carbon on my silver ED30 for 2 reasons....
1. I think it looks great and breaks up the whole car being colour coded.....personal preferences and all that!!
2. It should help stop the stone chips that the lip spoiler is prone too.
-
I have thought about wrapping my front splitter, or may just put a clear film over it instead.
The whole process cost me £300, that includes them smoothing the parts, primering and then painting and refitting, I would not advise you to try it yourself as it may cause more problems than it solves for the sake of saving a very few £.
:happy2:
-
I've been quoted £130 by company Carbon Skin to do the wrapping of the front Lip spoiler and the rear diffuser part of the bumper, thought that was quite reasonable?
-
Think you could do them yourself to be honest, buy enough wrap to do a roof/ bonnet so that you can be prepared for a few attempts, should only cost about £25 then, and you get the satisfaction of saying you did it by yourself, It shouldn't be that hard on those areas as there are not many hidden shapes.
-
i ended up going down the route of getting mines painted instead of wrapped because the company i went to to get wrapped said they wouldnt wrap the diffuser and splitter unless i got it primed because you woud notice all the little dimples on the parts through the wrap so i would ask the question.
-
Anyone done the colour coding like Big Als but left the sideskirts black?
-
I've got a black 3dr and think of getting my rear lower bumper sprayed the same with the arch around the exhaust left as it is and leaving the side and front standard.
Anyone else done this?
Cheers!
-
yeah mate iv done that with mines, hope this pic helps

Great cheers, looks good! Have you got a photo of the side to see how it looks. Looks great from what I can see. :happy2:

-
Great cheers. Just going to get the rear bumper done tomorrow then go from there. Hoping it will look ok.
-
I thought about this, problem with having the rear done but leaving the sides is it looks odd beccause the line follows through the rear wheel to meet the rear bumper and would just look strange if one was coded but not the other.
-
 Hmm. What to do?
-
Mine has only the rear bumper done (by previous owner). A few pics in my welcome thread:
http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,20617.0.html
I am planning on getting the side skirts and front splitter done when I get a chance as I think it looks better with all painted.
Also the mud flaps have been taken off now as I didn't like them either :happy2:
-
Great. Cheers!!
-
Hows it gone / going? :popcornsoda:

Ended up getting the lower rear fully painted, side skirts painted and the front outer valance painted, leaving just the front inner valance unpainted.
Really happy with how it looks again. Infact, ive got it up for sale but im having second thoughts about selling it now as it really is in mint condition. I was only selling it as ive got a little bored and fancied a change, but now??????
-
looks really good mate :happy2:
i would get the lower part of the valance wrapped in carbon fibre, would look the dogs!
-
Picked mine up today and really happy with it, just went for the rear bumper and left the arch around the exhaust. Looks really good. Will try and upload some pics :driver:
-
Looks ace! :happy2: How much did that rob you if you don't mind me asking?

The colour coding is more subtle on the black compared to other colours but it definitely makes a big difference imo :happy2:
