So for my Ed30 (Revo Stg1, Milltek DP/CAT, Autotech HFFP, Dbilas Intake) I've lined up Bilstein B12 kit, and a WALK kit.
I'm really after your thoughts on whether other mods should be considered/fitted at the same time.
The car is purely for the road and want to retain standard ish levels of comfort, so guess I'll avoid full engine mounts.
That said I'm wondering about the gearbox mount perhaps?
Are ARB's worth doing or do they stiffen the general ride etc, given the car will be purely used on road and I want to retain the NVH levels to normal VW levels, if that makes sense.
...forgot to add got the brakes sorted the other week, so no need to mention I need to upgrade those.
Plus after fitting where would anyone recommend in the North East for re-alignment etc.

B12 + WALK are a fine combo. :happy2:
Replace lower ball joint, upper strut mount and bearing and some screws:

OEM VW and Meyle are the ones to go for.
I'm very happy with ARBs. They keep most of the ride comfort (as does the B12).
Stiffer engine mounts increase engine vibration, but there are several different
mounts. Try a SEARCH on this forum.
I can't justify your needs. What do you want to get? Better handling? Improved
traction? You will both get with the B12 and WALK. Next I would go for the best
tyres I could get.

I will be fitting a bottom engine mount as I have driven a full THS mounted car and NVH very low, I will start with just the bottom engine mount. I hear good things about this mount in terms of gear change and reduction in tramping, with minimal NVH issues.
I run exclusively on the road and have worked hard to retain comfort and compliance, ARB's will not affect comfort, neither will WALK. I have been very pleased with TT MkII bottom arms
I run B16 + Walk and with adjusted tyre pressures the performance and comfort is better (35-36 F warm, 33-34 R warm)

I am looking at B12's. Where is best to get them from please?
Which ARB's are best with WALk and B12 set up please?
Sorry to hijack
-
bilstein have stopped making the B12 out of the factory although several places will still make the kit up for you with either eibach or h & r springs.
pdt may do it for you or camskill, euro performance.
i decided aginst fitting as cant really lower my car as front splitter trashed were i live to get car round back into garage so I just have WALK, eibach arb's and TT lower wishbones (although am still considering B12 now have a spare splitter as can trash the other one )

Any ARB set will work fine with B12 and WALK, but I'd prefer the Whiteline 24/24 now.
-
So I can buy springs 'for now' and add the Bilstein shocks later?
Which springs are best matched to them? I seem to remember reading that they are designed for H&R's, but would Eibach Sportline be suitable too?
I'm tempted to go for the WALK and Sportlines for now, and add the Bilstein shocks later. Is this a good route to go down?
Need to sort my brakes too :(
-
I've just ordered a 'made up' B12 kit from Balance Motorsport along with a WALK and Whiteline Adjustable Rear ARB.
Couldn't reccomend the advice and service so far enough, though I've only done it today so nothing has come yet.
Regards
Matt

Thanks Matt, that's exactly the set up I think I want to go for.
Do you know if they sell the H&R springs and Bilstein shocks separately please? I want to do WALK and springs first, then ARB and shocks later as I want Xenons and RNS510 too

Lol tell me about it... I have an RNS510 in my room and MFSW that doesn't work yet... Highline dash and Bluetooth to be fitted next after suspension lol.
They don't have HR springs in at the mo. The story goes Bilstein have stopped the B12 kit for now because they've dropped HR springs. The new ones will (apparently) be Eibach.
So the long story short is that Bilstein dampers with Eibach springs IS the NEW B12 kit.

Eibach Sportlines?
-
Cheers for the info chaps.
I think I will just fit the B12 and the WALK at this time and see if I need some more to it.
Tempted by the gearbox mount sometime perhaps..
From my original post, anyone have any recommends for re-alignment in the North East post fitting?
Not after some extreme track set up, just want the car to not chew tyres or crab along.
-
Russ, yeah Sportlines mate.
Speaking of Balance Motorsports service so far... The ARB and Springs arrived today.... Couldn't be happier - less than 24h from order!!
Bernhard, most people will back me in saying that you should consider a rear ARB too. That will give the biggest bang per buck of any suspension mod. The Whiteline kit I bought is adjustable and cost 170 to my door.

If you plan to match the Eibach Pro with Bilstein HD (B6) or Bilstein Sport (B8) keep
in mind you have the choice between both Mk.V and Mk.VI versions of these.
- Mk.V B6/B8: stiffer
- Mk.VI B6/B8: ~ 20 % softer than Mk.V equivalents
B8 are just shortened B6 but have same valving.
I wonder why Bilstein changed the valving for the Mk.VI as weight and suspension
are the same as on the Mk.V, but fact is they did.
For lowering springs that are designed to work with stock length dampers you
don't need the shorter B8 dampers. Go with the stock length B6 as they provide
better traction on rough roads.

Fitted the Bilstein B12 sportline kit to my 08 gti in december 11 and it's one of the best mods on the car and love it gonna get WALK ordered up next week

That's an interesting find. Where did you get that info?
Are the new 2012 kits available in Germany yet? They have changed the range for this year but the website isn't updated yet.
They now make a pro kit for the GTI where before it was just sportline B12 But their online catalogue doesn't show this yet

A friend has talked to Mr. Neuman from Neuspeed and told me.
Then I have emailed with Bilstein. A Euro Pro Kit for GTI is good news.
ps: I'd stil go for Mk.V B6.
-
for me the b12 kit is up there as one of the best mods i have done, certainly best suspension mod and on a dat to day basis better than the lsd :driver:
-
Got a WALK and next B12, cannot wait I keep hearing good things

So the b6 is the same as b8 just not shortened?
Can the b6 be chosen as art of the kit instead?
-
Right, Ken. Both have identical valving.
Formerly I thought in some applications B8 are also slightly stiffer, but at least in case
of the Mk.V and Mk.VI variants they aren't.
Yes, I'd recommend to go for B6 instead of the shortened B8 to achieve better traction
on rough roads.
With Eibach Pro, Sportline, VWR or VW DG spings no shortened rebound is required.
