Title: Engine Oil Level
Post by: spimmers on May 31, 2011, 01:40:20 pm
Hi, ive only had my GTi a couple of months and today decided i'd check my engine oil level and because it had only just been serviced when i bought it i thought it would of been ok, but the oil level seems very low infact its only just above the min level, could i have a problem? it definately doesnt have a leak i park in the same spot at home every day and there is never oil on the floor. anyway can someone tell me which oil i use to top it up and from the pic can anyone tell how much it will need?
Thanks  :drinking:

Have a read:

The topic of oil consumption is well covered & widely posted about.

Check your oil weekly as they can get through a fair bit. As long as you're using less than one litre per 600 miles you are within VW tolerance.

You'll need a little under a litre to get the level up to max assuming you took the dipstick out after the car had beed standing awhile.

Do not overfill it and use longlife oil like castrol edge 5W-30.

+1 Castrol Edge. I get top up packs from Asda for £10 for a litre. Apparently they've gone up to £12 but still cheaper than the stealer.
