Have I missed something here?! What's gone on? Just said on itv 4 coverage that the split was amicable. Does anyone know what's gone on?
-
No idea, same conversation over on Club GTI. Bizarre turn of events.
-
-
Sorry , didnt see this thread , I started my own not 2 mins ago - very strange. Ive never heard of a driver ending his days with a team half way through a meeting like this before.

Ha I think we both started threads at exactly the same time!
-
I find it totally bizarre that they didn't show for the 3rd race.
-
The thing is ToC comes from bigger teams previously so maybe hes not happy with the progress of AMDMiltek or the prospects as they are a much smaller team and not giving him the results he'd expect
-
Saw this on Twitter:
@alan_gow_btcc (not Alan Gow)
Apparently @tomonslowcole wanted to take his Rover 25 out, and that's why they've parted company #BTCC - he's not a quitter like Tim Harvey
I don't follow this carp just searched for it before anyone thinks I am that sad. Made me chuckle though.

Seems he has another drive with another team.
-
.
Yep, I had a txt from Phil Millington from the circuit earlier - Tom O-C has done a U-turn back to Aon or whatever those Ford boys call themselves. Poor show to quit just before an actual race imo but so much goes on behind the scenes in motorsport.
-
If that's the case Robin then I think it's very un-professional. :fighting:
Will Shaun undertake driving duties or will their Junior Driver get promoted?
-
I was just wondering if RR may be connected enough to start a BTCC career now.
After all he knows Mk5 Golfs..

....I agree - Very unprofessional. He need only have waited until after the third and last race of the day.
I don't know for certain who will be driving yet but the team will be racing at Croft in a fortnight.

....That would be a laugh wouldn't it! - If only I was about 40 years younger (for lots of reasons!)
-
Is it unprofessional? He might well have had good reason, who knows, and i doubt we ever will. Im sure his and shauns opinion will always differ
from BTCC.net
AmD Milltek, Onslow-Cole split
The AmD Milltek Racing.com team has confirmed that with immediate effect it has parted company on amicable terms with driver Tom Onslow-Cole.
The New Malden racer informed team principal Shaun Hollamby of his decision to leave after today's second Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship race at Oulton Park.
The team plans to announce a replacement for Onslow-Cole in the near future.
Hollamby commented: “We have enjoyed working with Tom during his short time as part of the AmD Milltek Racing.com team and wish him all the best for his future career. We were told of Tom’s decision 15 minutes before the final race today at Oulton Park and that he would no longer be driving for us.
“AmD Milltek Racing.com is staffed by a strong and talented group of people who will continue working hard to build on the progress we have made this season. As a team, we remain focused on moving the Volkswagen Golf up the BTCC grid and will evaluate replacement drivers to allow us to continue with the progress made so far through the remainder of the season.
“We would like to thank Milltek and Tesco Momentum 99 for all of their support during our exciting campaign so far and look forward to further success on track.”

"We were told of Tom's decision 15 minutes before the final race today," he said. "There was no point [doing the race] because he doesn't have the money to fix any damage.
So he ran out of money
-
i wander if ToC wasnt getting the money he expected. Strange that he wasnt on contract either.
Doesnt bode well for AMDMiltek though if theyre out of cash. looks like Shaun will have to step back in. That'll save alot of money id imagine
-
as far as im aware AON offered him a better contract as in he doesnt have to pay for his seat.
-
So are Team AON going to run 3 cars or will Andy Neate get stiffed?
-
WOW.... me and my brother were at Oulton today , and we thought it was very odd that TOC didn't come around for the parade lap. NO mention of it apart from "Ohh... TOC doesnt appear to have left the pits".
-
WOW.... me and my brother were at Oulton today
You get around a bit don't you?
-
Certainly do Hedge.... :stupid:
"There was no point [doing the race] because he doesn't have the money to fix any damage."
If that is true its no wonder he was so far off the pace in the 2nd (wet) race... having something like that at the back of your mind every race cant be good.
-

By the looks of this article it doesnt look to me that he had a signed contract with AMD anyway
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/92027 (http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/92027)
But contract or no contract to walk out on a team 15mins before a race is unbelievable and imo utterly disrespectful to AMD.
I have more opinions on the matter but I shall be keeping them to myself :happy2:
-

it might be, but maybe he had a good reason to refuse to race, had he been paid? was he owed money, he wasnt under contract so could walk anytime but to leave a team 15minutes before a race must of been a the result of some hefty behind the scenes issues. Also consider he had a good relationship with them up until today
At the end of the day he has a new contract with Aon, but that wouldnt be enough of a cause to not finish the days racing and potentially black mark your name.
He must have been at the end of his tether for some reason or another to make such a brash decision, knowing the media will be all over him like tramp on chips. You guys are jumping straight on his back because he's left the golf in the lurch, maybe its AMDMilteks fault for not honouring their side of the bargain? who knows
-
Yep, always two sides to a coin.
Everything I've read and heard about him suggests he is a thoroughly decent bloke, so it's very unlikely he just decided to be a **** for the day.
-
Could be that as he now had a contract with another team this meant any potential repairs would need to be covered by him, hence not risking the race?
-
Thinking outside the box here, could the Milltek drone finally got to much.
Only joking by the way i had a great day out as a guest with these guys. :drinking:
-
Had a good chat to tom today between race 1 and 2 and he said that the golf isn't a very good handling car
and only looked good in the first race because it was wet and that it hides the problem but he also said something
about how his dad was really busy sorting something out now this didn't click until I heard he'd left the team
It seems as tho his dad was sorting his new drive out maybe.
-

If that is true its no wonder he was so far off the pace in the 2nd (wet) race... having something like that at the back of your mind every race cant be good.
....He was off the pace because he was the only driver to decide to run on slicks all round. He was gambling on it drying out and consequently coming on strong as the race progressed but the gamble didn't pay off.
He'd started 20th in the first race and got up to 7th for several laps before his tyres let him down and I think he then finished 11th.

Im sure if he didnt have "If i bin this thing I'm gonna have to pay for it" at the back of his mind he would have pressed much harder regardless of tyres.
-

Its quite common for drivers/riders in motorsport not to get paid by the team for driving/riding but to actually pay the team for the seat for the season. Some of these deals include that the drivers pay for any damage they inflict on the car/bike. :happy2:
-
he wasnt the only driver to go on slicks all round. most of the rear runners did and they were the ones figthting hardest at the end. Look at TomBoardman. he was 5 seconds a lap faster at the end before being taken out. a few of the vectras did it as well
-

.... Are we talking about the same race 2? IIRC Boardman did so well in race 1.

The drivers pays AMD to drive the car, so AMD arent saving money from this.
This thread is amusing at people trying to find ways, and clutching straws whilst doing so to someone make this down to being AMDs fault, or making it sound that AMD are lacking in some way.
People in this thread have already mentioned this, but to make it pretty clear: In motorsport, only the very top drivers get paid to race, others PAY to race, and some get to do it for free.
Now to make it even clearer, unless you are a top 8 driver in F1, or sebastien Loeb chances are you do not get paid to drive, and more often than not you pay to drive. Its a rich mans sport.
AMD will find a new driver and continue to do a fantastic job as a new team, developing the car as it becomes more competitive.
-
Even in F1 people have to pay for their seats, the Jap drivers are a prime example of that.
If you read the book about Perry McCarthy (The Stig) he struggles to get into F1 as he doesn't have the funding behind him.

Was a great weekend of racing, what was Matt Neil thinking :signLOL: :signLOL:
I managed to get an early pit lane walk and had a great laugh watching the Pirtek vauxhall team practicing tyre changes :congrats:
In the bar after the race, the topic of conversation between all the marshalls was the AMD/TOC split, so variety of opinion and story was mentioned. All i say is, all the best to both parties for the rest of the season.
-
^^ Did you have your anni parked up near the bridge to knickerbrook?

Matt Neil and 'Flash' Gordon were total gentlemen and professionals about their coming together in direct contrast to that spoilt-brat whinger called Plato!

Yep, marshall point 18, clay hill, that was me :happy2:
Unfortunately still with the war wound of the missing valance :sad1:
-
And centre caps....
-
Wheels just been refurbed so waiting to put the caps back together, few people walked past and noted the lack of caps and valance :signLOL:

Good luck to him. I think TOC is probably the quicker driver but Shaun should do a good job. :congrats:
