I've pushed the mirror forward and removed the screw. I was expecting the housing to just pop/slide out. But I whatever I try, I just cannot get it to come out.
Am I being a thicko here or is there some kind of method or technique to doing this?

Thanks Blue. I can wiggle the housing and it comes out 1-2mm, then forced a key inside to try and pop it out... but heard cracking inside so stopped. Both sides are firmly wedged and won't come out. Also can''t get the driver-side sidelight out - eventually gave up. Wondering if VW is playing a joke on me by making my bulbs virtually impossible to replace myself.

Good news - my friend managed to pop them out. There's a tab inside the housing (opposite side of the screw) just needed to gently slide a flat-head screwdriver in - and they slide out easily.
Bed news - driver's side still not working. Nothing wrong with the bulb - must be loose wiring or something.
Not a major thing but would be nice to have both sides working.
Cheers.
