Hi,
For the second time in 8 months we have been burgled - CID reckon that the thiefs are after the keys to my GTI as they rummage through cupboards / drawers but have never nicked anything.
We've upgraded our house security as much as possible to try to put them off breaking in, but I'm wondering about installing some extra security to the car.
Has anyone added any additional security features, if so what and how much are we talking?
Any advice appreciated - cheers

I don't think you need anything extra on the car as they obviously can't take it at the moment anyway , they just want the keys, the best option is to try to stop them getting in the house I guess, if you want extra things on the car I would add an anti hijack which let's them take the keys but they still cant take the car, well not for any distance anyway, a visible deterrent could be a disklok but then they will be searching for the key to this also !.

Excuse for a remap. Most remaps offer a security mode where even if someone has your keys and start the engine the throttle pedal doesn't work
-
removable steering wheel, wheel clamp, or lowering stumps at the end of the drive. (have been thinking about them for a while as they are noisy and a pain for a burglar to lower)
Tracker, dog or a really cheap Halford s body kit are also very good deterrants.

Does nobody believe in a tracker
-
Get a Gun and wait for them to come back. Shoot them in the bollocks and tell them not come back. Expect them not to come back :happy2:
Then emigrate !
Seriously though there is not much you can do. They haven't knicked it in two attempts so i expect them to try someone else next. I'm sure its not the only one around.
-
Who wants a car back after its been knicked? Not me. So trackers are only there to get insurance or reduce your premiums. A Tracker is no deterrent toa good car thief .

If u have a decent motor then it's not going to be nicked for a joyride. Most thieves will nick a good motor to sell on and won't want to trash it.
They'll normally drive it and park it up somewhere for a week to see whether it has a tracker, if it's still there after avweek they'll collect it. At least with a tracker u have a chance of getting your motor back without any damage and really quickly.

Carla - out of interest, how old (or new) is your car? Sorry to hear about this, it realy is sh*t when this happens.

Pressure pad alarm system downstairs. One step on one of these and 130dB alarm goes off. :happy2:
Also a simple fix would be to have a hidden fuel cut switch fitted, so they cannot start the car as it has no fuel delivery active.

Thanks for the advice guys - I like the excuse for a re-map! would be funny to sit and watch the thieving bstard sitting in the car not going anywhere! I could even use the spare key to lock him in and he can sit and wait for the police to show up.
Felix - car is originally on a 54 plate but has a private reg.
Thanks again x

best thing to do is wire the car up to the national Grid then when they touch the door they will get a massive kisck in the bollocks :star:, shame i dont think its legal in this country :stupid:

I believe* if you put a warning and it's ignored then it's not your fault? But the law is a bit funny in this country sometimes.
*Not even remotely a lawyer.

you can get cliffords alarm that just plugs in with a canbus adaptor which would have anti hijack plus a more sensative alarm. but saying that if they are coming into your house then if they get the keys only the anti hijacking will stop them.
How about a safe in the house? bolted to the floor in a secure location?

Clifford Advantguard 5.5... Got this fitted on my 1.6 FSI -£500 fully fitted
Dual zone proximity sensor... glass break, tilt motion sensors all in... Intellistart and Blakjax 5!!
Dual-circuit immobilization... even if they get your keys, they aint going nowhere unless they key in the correct pin..
Brilliant piece of kit!
