Hello from Oregon, and the Pacific Northwest.
I hope I'm not stepping on toes if I visit you all from time to time.
This is my`07 MKV FSI in its current state;

It ran its 1st 1/4 mile on 6-4-11 with my K04 + upgrades. These are her time slips;

I haven't filled out my profile yet, where I'll put my mods in my signature. Getting to that next.
I'm looking forward to checking out the dub community here.
So, Hello to all of you...

Thanks, and yes, I did drill them myself. Everyone has their own taste, I know. The squared look of the
aftermarket open fog grills just wasn't growing on me, so I tried something different. So, it doesn't suit everyone, but it does look good to me.

Yee hah welcome to the forum!!!!
cars looking excellent loving the red shine from it :happy2:
keep up the good work

Yeah i like the look of the fog grills :happy2: i've never seen them drilled out and fitted like that before, kinda DIY but i think it works quite well :congrats:

Thank you. I figured what the hell, try it. If I didn't like the results, I haven't lost anything really. Because I would just go ahead with the others at that point.
-
Welcome aboard matey :happy2: Great looking example.
-
Thanks. You all are really cool. Over the past few years in forums, mostly US, you don't really receive the welcome
like I've seen here. Guys go into the intro threads there and usually aren't even welcomed sometimes. Usually guys
start in on how their ride sucks, what they need to do to it, and/or immediately try to convince the new guy how to
modify. It sometimes turns in to a flame show. So, again thanks :happy2:

....Yep, that's unfortunately a familiar story - I'm a member of that forum across your side of the pond too. But it's not all bad.

A Warm Welcome.
Any close-up pics of your drilled foglight panels? I thought of doing the same once upon a time but didn't think I could do it well enough.
-

It is true that it's not all bad and yes I have close ups of the drilled fog grills;

I've been told quite often to remove more, leaving only the honeycomb. But I'm not going to do more than I have...AND
what I did was cut out a template that fit inside the honeycomb from a piece of cereal box cardboard. I put a small hole in the center of the template,
and marked each spot to drill using the tip of a nail. A scribe or something else sharply pointed would work. Then I drilled them with
a wood bore bit like this;
http://thumbs1.ebaystatic.com/m/mg_jhPDk9kPZPJZlAPylvdQ/140.jpg
I rested the fog grill on end of a wooden post for backing to stabilize the bitas it went through. Drilling from the outside to the inside and I took my time.

....I think you're right. To remove more would seriously weaken the honeycomb structure as what's left would be too thin.

That is exactly what I thought.

Am actually liking that, and glad you're enjoying your stay here too. I wasn't going to dwell on this point for too long, but UK forums are quite different than the US ones in terms of how people are with each other. Nice friendly, helpful and supportive bunch on here :happy2:
-
Absolutely correct.
-
welcome
-
Thanks to every one of you.
-
Welcome along, :happy2: :happy2:
Nice TR GTI you have there. Not short on mods too. :surprised:
lol I do like. :drool:
Got any video's of her?
We hope you enjoy your stay.
-
It look so cool :congrats:
-
The only vid I have is a 0-120mph. It was raining when I shot it, so the start is a bit of a crawl.
Here's the link;
I have 20whp more now then I had in the vid. I changed from AWE/giac K04 file to giac's high output K04 file.
-
^^^^
GIAC more popular on your side of the pond than over here.
-
Nice ride fella :drool:

Yes, I guess so. And getting more popular after setting a 1/4 mile record @ 11.8 et @ 116mph(K04 - dsg).
GIAC and APR are most popular with REVO and UNITRONIC behind them.
-
Nice car!!
-
Thanks!
