I've found plenty of blank keys on ebay but they don't come with a transponder, does anybody know if this is the correct transponder for a 2007 Golf, are they all the same?

It's a rocky path to tread Dave. I've read many a thread where people spend ££ on eBay in pursuit of a cheaper spare key but ultimately end up buying OEM from a dealer and having wasted ££ on eBay end up spending more than they needed to.

Well both sellers have excellent feedback, what can go wrong?

If you are comfortable then go for it. I was simply offering an opinion based on the misfortune of others.

hickleys.co.uk can tell you which transponder suits the car and also sell you one - worth giving them a call

Cheers, only £10 for the transponder on there :happy2:
-
Can you program the transponder with VCDS or is it dealer only?
I understand programming the remote can be done myself
-
If you have the SKC for the instrument cluster you can do it, otherwise somewhere like hickleys or a VW dealer can do it for you.

I've got a key and found somewhere to cut it.
Does anyone know anyone in/nr Leeds that can code the new transponder (not a VW dealer!)

Hi mate
Get yourself on advanced-diagnostic.co.uk then you can find a local auto locksmith in your area
I don't know what they will charge
Hope this helps

Ended up getting it coded at VW for £27 - set price now apparently :happy2:
Worked out at ~£70 for a new key, beats my £170 quote from VW
