Hi after just getting my GTI wheel tracking done today i noticed while the car was up in the air there was rust under the door.
Its by the leading edge of the door right at the bottom and sort of behind the the outer door skin and underneath.
So my question is will this be covered by VW as the car is under 4 years old.
It does look like the corner might off been touched up in the past.
So any ideas ?

Vw might do it under warrannty..but only if its geniune paint work or been done by them in the past

A lot of people have had issues with this and it is a known design flaw on VW's part as mud and slime collects behind the wheel arch causing the rust. VW do a 12 year warranty on rust as long as it is not caused by the owner modding/ not looking after the car.
Take it to your VW garage and they will inspect it/photograph it, and take your details and they should get back to you to let you know if you have been approved or not for repair work. some do, some don't.
I actually need to take mine due to minor rusting in the same area, and also on the rear door lock on the bodywork.

It will also depend if your car has been dealer serviced...good luck

I'd love to know how they justify that rust has anything to do with the way they service their cars

Just had the go ahead to have my front wings replaced and front edge of both sills repaired on my 04 reg GT tdi under warranty, the car has only got part VW service history (up to 75,000 miles - it's on 110000 now) and has never been serviced at the garage it's being repaired at !
Don't let them fob you off !
