Hi all, thinking of investing later this year in a sonos starter kit to wirelessly connect iPod, mac, last fm (greatness).
I got a Bose soundock for chrimbo one year, then the apple eggheads changed the pinouts so it docks and works but does not charge, similarly I got a in tempo ifo1 which I really liked for the money.
So, thinking of changing to wifi based stuff with the onset of the new cloud iTunes drm enhanced and streaming services now rocking the planet.
Anyone any experience of it? Costco have it at £340 right now.
Thinking one for main living room area that can easily be transported to the west wing and when my daughter gets more musically aware then she can add to the system (more like I can later :surprised:) as she/ we think.

Have you looked at Squeezebox, much cheaper than Sonos.
I've had them for about 2 years now, got a Boom and Radio which both have speakers and a Touch wired to my hi-fi. The Radio can be battery operated too so you can take it in the garden etc. All can be synced up.

Will have a look/ listen thanks. The Sonia sound was quite superb though.

That's the problem with Squeezebox, not many high street stores stock it, SuperFi and some PC World's do.
Sound quality on the stand alone units are great though, especially the Boom

Personally I'd be going for AirPlay enabled devices.

Ok I have a Sonos system.
It is categorically the best streaming music system you can but and IS THE BEST gadget I have ever bought, period.
Upto 32, it may have changed, zones all playing different music!
I have 2 zones :signLOL:
Anyway, you only need the bridge if you cannot connect the S5 to your router with a cable so if you can connect it don't bother with the bridge.
I am going to buy an S5 this year but I don't need the bridge as I have a ZP90 connected to the router.
I also have a ZP120 with a Speakercraft stereo ceiling speaker in the bathroom.
I use a Dlink DNS-323 NAS connected to the router full of music and I also use a Spotify Premium account which streams at I think 320kbps.
I use Lastfm to stream and its also an excellent internet radio.
Any specific questions just ask.

What's the difference between a Sonos set up and a network of Airport Express stations hooked up to individual amplifiers and speakers, or powered speakers, and a library of music shared in iTunes?
-
I have a 2 zone Sonos system, looking to add more zones to it soon :)
I have a Zonebridge and 2 S5 zones.
Rumour has it, Sonos are releasing a an "S3" or "Play:3" with 3speakers instead of the 5speakers in the S5.

There probably isn't any difference as I believe you can control the AirPlay from an iPhone/iPod Touch yes?
But it works with no issues ever!
You can control from a Sonos controller/iPhone/Android phone/ipod Touch/PC/Mac.
You don't have to have a PC or a NAS as you could just use Spotify/LastFM.
You can attach an iPod with a wireless dock and stream it all round the house from the dock so same as the sentence above.
If you plug your TV etc into the AUX in port you can stream that around the house too or anything else for that matter.
Remember 32 zones all playing different music to each zone seamlessly!
And customer support is second to none I called them at a silly hour once and they could see my system over the net!
I love it and recommend it to anyone and everyone brilliant and works as it should in this day and age.
