Title: bit of feedback/noise when plugging in aerial
Post by: barratt on June 09, 2011, 01:28:09 pm
I installed my aftermarket HU a few weeks back and all was fine. I then got myself the boosted dual fakra aerial adaptor. Installed it a couple of days ago and noticed it's causing a high pitched noise which can be heard even in AUX mode.

I tried it with just one of the aerials plugged in, removed it from the power. Made sure all the wires weren't close to avoid interference.

If I put the volume on 0 it goes away as it turns the speakers off, put it on a volume like 1 or 2 and it can be heard. It does become silent when there's enough volume for the music to be heard above it.
Without the aerial plugged in, it's fine!

Any one got any ideas?

Sounds like youve got an earth leakage from the adapter to the radio. Where does it draw its power from?

The power for the aerial adaptor? or the stereo itself?

I tried the aerial adaptor on both the solid blue wire and red wire. I then realised having it not powered at all still produced the same problem. It only disappears once I completely unplug the aerial from the stereo.
I have the Connects 2 CANBUS harness no hackjobbing the wire to the fusebox.

Yeah I bought it from here.

That's a picture of how it looks. I've noticed that sometimes the high pitched noise gets louder, its an on and off scenario. Also when the engine's running it seems to be louder a lot more.

If the blue wire is still coiled like that, uncoil it, and seperate it

It was the first thing I did but unfortunately made no difference

I've tried moving all power cables away from the aerial adaptor.

Aye, not sure if anyone else may be able to chip in and link me to the adaptor they use  :happy2:

Might try just putting the VW ends of the adaptor onto the HU casing see if it still causes and strange noise in case it's something to do with the aerial itself but I doubt it

Appreciate the suggestions and help mate.

Have you tried it without the booster 12V connected?

Yup, as i mentioned above it does the noise with and without the 12v booster. I didn't make that very clear after re-reading that, my bad  :signLOL:
