Bonjourno Everyone, didn’t have a clue why I wasn’t on here so joined up.
After selling my TT 225 and mk1 golf, I needed something both practical and economical for the commute. So ended up with a 57' plate 2.0 Tdi Jetta which has been nicknamed project G14OSE after my private plate (ps it says Goose) A few of you may have seen a thread on edition38 or section5.
The day I got it;
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fjimmymoo%2FProject_Kalashnikov%2FDSC_1200.jpg&hash=8edc742ba24541d6a1e7534981c9cfe546b84063)
Over time fitted a few bits and bobs, nothing to amazingly special
Current only mods are;
FK AK Streeline Coilovers (wound all the way down on the front still with helpers)
Dinoc Wrapped front grill surround
Private Plate
GT Steering wheels
Uprated headunit conversion with OEM parts
Uprated
As it sits now,

Still to go in/on;
MOMO 280 Team
Pick my Splits up Tuesday night 18x8.5/9.5s (cant wait to get them on)
Got big plans, inlcuding, more lows, audio, interior just not enough time of money at the moment :)
Let me know what you think :)

Turning the interior totally black, hated the hearing aid beige, so stripped everything out, just need the headlining dyeing now :)
yeah shes a good bus, however i am missing petrol turbo power :( but this is good fun :)
-
Right Progress finally, the interior is now all been painted black and is all back in, very chuffed. Also fitted my audiobahn system and hid all the wiring in the roof, for the OEM+ look, no cheeky wires under my carpets :)
Also the mercedes Eltanins have sold, so order my tyres, they should arrive 2moro. Im running 215/35/18 ALLROUND on 18x8.5" and 9.5". Stretch should be nice :) Also will be able to get my carbon fibre goodness on my grill soon as my new grill should be arriving 2moro :) then i will have to paint it black so it matches.
Whilst waiting for my mates Magnesium Rota's to dry, decided to add a bit of colour to the engine bay. Its the same colour as my Edition 30 calipers are going to be when ive stripped them down.
Stripped the cover and gave it a degrease and clean and prepped it for paint.

Next was to start dusting it with a couple of light coats of white primer to give it a base. Thought white will make the purple pop more. After the primer didn't flat the primer as i wanted to keep the textured look of the cover.

Right Thought id bang together a bit of an update;
Managed to get the wheels on the car on Saturday with the tyres getting fitted early that morning. I went for Nankang 215/35/18's all around on the 8.5" and the 9.5" they stretch quite nice TBF :) Big thanks to Little Scott at Kwik-Fit, Anlaby (HULL)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fjimmymoo%2FProject_Kalashnikov%2FPostBox.jpg&hash=12312fbfd9c58386e6e8021ca6d51140563d76d3)
Stretch on the 9.5s
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fjimmymoo%2FProject_Kalashnikov%2Fphoto-1.jpg&hash=abfb740991aaa50d71ffdf057bdd2ee75016c0f0)
I Love it, its not quite stanced right yet but im loving the wheels. Next is a chassis notch and the helpers out on the front. Then a few other touches to make it a bit more personal. Also going to bang the front 10mm spacers on the rear and try some 15 or 20mm spacers on the front.
Also a few pictures from the Big Fat Tour around North Yorkshire yesterday :)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fjimmymoo%2FProject_Kalashnikov%2Fgrill.jpg&hash=1cd4da17c308503c62ef477411403204ac6e19f0)

Excuse the Poop iPhone pics, SLR pics coming soon, along with a chassis notch and split black headlights :)
-
looking good buddy. very similar to mine.
I see your after some 20mm spacers too? i have a set that i can't run on as it pokes too much so could be up for a swap with your 10mm
-
what did you use to dye the roof liner? how hard was it to do?
car looks great btw!
-
Cheers Oldy,
Yeah similarish, there both silver Jettas, think were goggn in slightly different directions though which is cool. Think theres Catman on E38 aswellw ith a silver nice and low Jetta :) We'l all have to get together at a show, talk Jettas and let the Mrs natter amongst themselves.
Cheers RSAM84 I sprayed the rooflining and all plastics, took a while to get it perfect but im more than happy :)
Anywho,
Right good news. (Sorry there arent many pics, phone died :( )
Mad Mike Houghton the king of notches in Hull dropped me a text last night giving the go ahead to do the chassis notch and remove the helper springs on the Jetta. Stripped the car down last night which proved a nightmare. Had to remove the lower arm in the end just to gain enough room to get the shocks themselves out after seperating them via impact wrench and stripping it all down.
Good Job we did it though, looks like it was starting to rub.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fjimmymoo%2FProject_Kalashnikov%2Fnotch1.jpg&hash=416ed3d9923eb8e7b472750ea49b2dfd029e6143)
Picture in action before the camera died.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fjimmymoo%2FProject_Kalashnikov%2Fnotch2.jpg&hash=a15919917b43e560790a089dbc5deeaf8582bc74)
But all in all, I now have a chassis notch :) So Im happy, now I can go silly low without worrying, only slightly negative is I think I caught an ABS sensor whilst put the struts back together, so ive got the ESP, ABS and Sateering light on :( think I best plug VAG COM in :)
But anywho, More updates soon :)
-
Anywho, i after a 5 hours round trip last night, to Leicester and Back ive practically bank rupted myself :(
But came home with these puppies :)
Seat Leon Cupra K1 Seats in Plum Weir Bridge Leather. Bought them off a top lad called Tom Gilvert based in Leicester. His family were really nice and welcoming and very hospitable. Cna thank them enough and good luck to them in their Worx Saxo testing today.
It comes as a full interior, just making some modifications to the rears then hopefully full interior should be in by next week :) Love the Colour :) Ill bang some proper pictures up tonight, i was knackered form 2 late nights on the car so only had an iPhone pic :)

I Know a lad whos a vinyl guy by trade been doing it for years! Im selling it if you interested. Im guessing you mean the Jetta grill as im running a genuine carbon fibre gti grill now :)
I used satin black paint, it does look good but is rough to touch, might be better using Auto Glym dye if your going for the soft feel
nice seats!
Cheers Man :)
Anywho
After bolting the car back together, started having a christmas tree effect on my dashboard. ABS, ESP and Steering light on. Emergency and alarm bells starting thinking oh poop.
So anywho, needed to put the arch liners back in and adjust the ride height so thought id investigate. After readjusting the height of the coilies I started having a gander around checking every bolt was nipped up as it was 1:30AM on Wednesday morning last week so I was knackered.
Then stumbled across the culpret and then what it looked like unbolted.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fjimmymoo%2FProject_Kalashnikov%2Fnippedwire.jpg&hash=105eb87f11ca09c7c3f3d992fb354e2fd2d5315f)

Destroyed just the yellow wire, but thought I might aswell re-solder and wire them back again, I also gave alittle extra length to allow for a bit more movement as the wires were a little short. Turned over this morning and sorted after a few miles when the ABS cleared its head.
Also got a picture of the chassis notch before I trimmed the arch liner;
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fjimmymoo%2FProject_Kalashnikov%2Fcheekynotchpic.jpg&hash=99c237e9d5d01370819ac1717ae945936a15606a)
This is how its sitting about another 1/2" lower, sorry for the iPhone pics, as soon as I get the interior in and car sat right ill do a proper mini shoot :)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fjimmymoo%2FProject_Kalashnikov%2Fdroppedhalfaninch.jpg&hash=2a4aa2cccacc82cb3231f792b2226d8f9dda0ac6)

Managed to do a few things over the weekend to the Jetta, but was splitting the time between my car and my mates del sol so going to have to get some graft done midweek.
First thing I wanted to do was the remove the rest of the chrome on the front end and try and get it looking black and dark like the grill etc. Trouble is to remove the little over riders, you have to remove the entire front bumper. This is easy on a standard car, however if you’re a bobby knobhead and decide to lower your car, you have to get the front end on the air and get the rims off. So this is how Saturday Started out…
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fjimmymoo%2FProject_Kalashnikov%2Fdroppedhalfaninch.jpg&hash=2a4aa2cccacc82cb3231f792b2226d8f9dda0ac6)
Its simple to remove and to be fair very easy to work on, around 16 torque head screws later under neather and in the arches, and two large torx ontop of the bumper, it simply popped off.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fjimmymoo%2FProject_Kalashnikov%2F1.jpg&hash=f1a5c8a5b9665decb929c28e236d725111aa57da)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fjimmymoo%2FProject_Kalashnikov%2F5.jpg&hash=034c86144d2ccac8abd7576f830a774d0b24835a)
Then it was the strip down, the front side grills come out after one cross head screw in the corner, then popping the clips on the rear out and the vents/over riders come out in one piece. The large centre grill simply pops out.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fjimmymoo%2FProject_Kalashnikov%2F4-1.jpg&hash=03fcf8d82e97ad1d5b7b19a74966bd378e1529b5)
I then removed the chrome trim surround from the lower grill and keyed it ready for paint. I then masked up the grills and over riders ready to paint them too. After a couple of layers of primer and a couple of satin black they were done. I decided on satin the same as the front end, so everything matched up. I also painted the top of the bumper too, as with the Gti honey comb grill you could easily see the reflex silver through the holes, so I masked up the area and sprayed it satin so that nothing could be seen behind.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fjimmymoo%2FProject_Kalashnikov%2F8.jpg&hash=f7cc0ce4e4c7ff022849c7dbe6b9d3871299325d)

Then it was time for the re-fot, about 20mins later it was all bolted back on, I like it but I think it’s a grower, ive been used to having chrome for so long I just need to get used to it all. I think with the carbon grill on it will look a lot nicer.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fjimmymoo%2FProject_Kalashnikov%2F7.jpg&hash=11153f0f8670cb71e307084a69cff6832cc86955)
Im running it with an old broken grill as im rebonding the carbon one to the gti grill so it fits perfect. I also luckily had the help of my mates garage and use the pit (as I get beached on the ramps now :( )so we could give the car a longlife oil service as it was well over due. Managed to grab a cheeky photo but the lighting was crap!!
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fjimmymoo%2FProject_Kalashnikov%2F3.jpg&hash=ddd1d530f5602417b4c3364b92cfd97704472259)
And that’s it for now, still need to do loads before Festival :(
-
Managed to give the car a pre-festival wash last night, got the carbon grill back on after some rebonding and gave the wheels a quick buff. Still got loads left to do, but went for a few cheeky pictures last night, found a real nice lit area on the industrial estate think they came out quite nice. Coming soon, tinted headlights, another 15mm lower on the front, de-badged rear and last 2 door cards in, along with a detail for festival :)

Yeah man, wish i could run it off 100% of the time, but hey ho :)
Morning Ladies and Gents, well before Setting off to VW Fest on Saturday afternoon thought id change a few little things.
I dropped the front end about another 9 or 10 threads on the front, and even the mrs got involved as she debaged the rear of the car. Fully Snow foam and a bit of a clean, then nearly got into fisty cuffs with the neighbour when hovering my car.......long story........
But the mods, Just made it look a little cleaner, its also fair to say the subframe now feeds on tarmac with a side of gravel every now and then :)
The show I thought was brilliant, ive been for the past 4 or 5 years now and every year it grows and was great, nice and chilled out :)Awesome meeting up with the Vag Car and S5 boys again! EARLY KETTLE! Would have loved to have picked something up in the show n shine, but don’t think my cars quite at the next level yet, got lots planned money depending of course.
I never managed to take many photos, but heres a few of my favourties through friends and forums (hope peeps don’t mind)

Is it your fog light?!

Finally some more mods happening, times have been tight of late and been mega busy. I have some fog covers, R8 Oil Cap en route and also have a splitter sorted in good time.
At High Peaks, Low Dubs I managed to grab some bargains tbh. Got a pair of brand new Genuine mirror caps in factory paint for a bargain £10 :)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fjimmymoo%2FProject_Kalashnikov%2F2.jpg&hash=0721471e6d6c7cdb6c50f5ad70fbcd11f03c82b1)

Which I then suitable ruined with 100 grit paper as there the wrong colour :P Ive decided that yeah I love my car as it is, but theres just too much silver going down at the moment, plus my current mirror caps could do with a spray as there a bit chipped. So ive decided to go with satin black to match the other little touches on the car. Ive got pictures of them in primer however my battery went dead, so ill bang some pictures of the mirror caps finished tonight.

20mm spacers, ive done a swapsie deal with a lad on the Mk5 forum, so now will be running 20mm instead of 10mm on the front. Which will give me an offset of ET39 which should sit pretty nice. Ill bang them on tonight with my mirror caps :)
More Updates soon….

Car is stunning mate. Sorta with i made more effort with my passat.
Jetta and Passat's have so much potential more nice smooth mods

Right mini update,

The car sits alot nicer in the arches now and makes it look a little wider. Trouble is now im scrub like a fecker on the arch linings, so because the wings are galvanised i might bin the liners anyway. Then hopefully go down a little further on the front, got 9 threads left, might aswell use them :P
Next was to get the mirror caps fitted. Simple job, put the electric mirrors to face all the way down, then pop the mirror off then 3 T10 torx bolts and then pop the cover off with a masking tape wrapped flat headed screwy :)

I think the black breaks up all the silver really nice, makes everything a bit noticeable. Which is also a negative as now i want to tint the Indicator Lenses :)
Also Meguiars Gold Class Wax FTW :) Sperm Beading :)

Right so ever since I sprayed my mirror caps satin black, the side repeaters have stood out like a sore thumb and just generally annoyed me. So last night, after a failed attempt at splittnig my spare headlights, I focused on these.
They came out really nice in the end after the 3rd attempt. The first attempt the repeaters must have had wax on so didn’t adhere, 2nd attempt was fine till I lacquered them. 3rd bowl was just right :)
Rewarding little job but I very fiddly and nightmare job to do in the PITCH BLACK!

Cheers Boys :)
Well The Mrs clutch went or what really happened is she smelt something and thought it was her clutch because some guy at her work filled her full of sh*t :)
In the car park so happened to be another Jetta in Reflex silver.... Be rude not to take some snaps :)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fjimmymoo%2FProject_Kalashnikov%2Fda2829e5.jpg&hash=f173286a958e439640d6704bca0225793e78d8c6)

Looks really nice mate, what did you use to tint the indicators? also how bright are the when there on?
-
now then dude used savage tint spray.
there alright, still see them quite bright and awesome at night.
Just Make sure you thoroughly clean them with thinners first to remove wax and general crud :)
coat them to whatever darkness you like. Just Keep tinting till you have your desired thickness :)
-
Sound, Cheers buddy, might give it a go on my spare set, was gonna try lamin-x'in them.
-
Nah skip the lamin-x saw a guys mk5 at High Peaks Low Dubs and im guessing through heat, they'd come away and made it look bad.
Savage spray FTW, just take your time :)

Cheers Mate :happy2:

Well with the Mrs at football and with a few hours on my hands i decided to give the daily a clean. The cars done about 1400 miles in the past 3 weeks so it deserved it.
Started by giving it a power wash first to get rid of 3 weeks of daily grime and then gave it a good thick snow foam with elite cherry.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fjimmymoo%2FProject_Kalashnikov%2F96426ff6.jpg&hash=44838ca7e6fae0e49e7273a38ea0fd67124de97a)
Then rinsed it off and gave it a clean with Auto Glym Bodywork shampoo using the 2 bucket method with my elite grit guard bucket.
Next was a case of drying the car off with a large waffle drying towel. I then used Auto Glym super resin polish to give a nice smooth surface before wax was applied. I put it on all the Jettas panels of the car and then removed using another waffle towel.
Next stage was wax. Lately ive been using the Auto Glym HD wax. And i have to say its absolutely mint. Easy to apply with the moist foam applicators supplied in the kit. I applied a nice thick coat and left it 15-20mins.
While the wax was going off i repolished the 2 rear dishes, and put a nice thick layer of Meguiars Endurance tyre gel on. This stuff smells amazing and is the longest lasting tyre cleaner ive used over the years. The glass was then cleaned with Auto Glym Fast Glass both inside and out.
Next it was time for the wax to be removed. I maybe left it on a little to long but fook me, it gives a nice finish :) Manged to get it for £26 delivered of ebay opposed to the Halfrauds price of £50!!

Finished the car off by doing all the sills and giving the car a good hoover. Then i used Auto Glym bumper care and did all the black areas on the car and then decided to give the engine bay a good clean too. Came up really well :)

Then took a few snaps of the car sat on my drive

Basically, when you get to a certain point lowering a MK5/Jetta your driveshaft begins to rub on your chassis leg. To gain dick head lows, you need to remove the helpers on most coilovers to get it looking right, this is when you chassis needs to be notched.
Think my passenger side is rubbing now though too :(
Random Bead Picture Too :)

cheers dude, hopefully going to get ti even lower, going to lower the rear a little more next week too :) Think Ive got the offsets nailed pretty well, good balance between tuck and poke, just about right on the arch :) so i can go dick lows
Mitch - I Have 6mm tubed steel welded in so should be even stronger than the chassis legs was before tbh.
-
Which coilovers are you using? How much did they set you back? Cheers
-
Couple of Q's regarding wheel specs:-
1. Were you scrubbing when the fronts had the 10mm spacer on ? ET49 iirc with an 8.5j rim
2. Whats the current spec on the rears 9.5j ET and spacer ??
Wanting to see if i can tuck a 10j with a high offset :scared:
Cheers Steve
-
Joe - I'm Running FK AK Streetlines.
On the front the ET was Originally 59, on a 10mm spacer (ET49) no scrubbave at all. With 20mm spacer (Et39) I've rolled the arches slightly and rolled the screw over and I only scrub under extreme cornering or turning a corner over a really uneven surface.
On Thd backs I'm Running 9.5" x 18's on ET49 with no issues.
On both The above you must remember I'm also running 215/35/18 tyres all around which help ALOT with clearance so bare that in mind :)
Hope That helps gents :)
