Why
to get rid of the yellow look standard sidelights give
Sourcing
i got mine through hids-diect ebay shop and there also available direct from hids-direct. they cost £3.99 plus £2.50 p&p
Fitting
not too bad to fit, the passenger side can be a little tight, took me around 5 mins todo both
Other versions
i think the only bulbs that will look similar will be leds
Plus Points
a cheap quick to do mod thats simple and doesnt require resistors like leds and there should`nt be no temperature issues, and there very similar to the xenons colour
Minus Points
there not quite as bright as leds i think
Summary
these bulbs give off a nice white light with a slight blue tinge and there not too pricey either. im very pleased with the look ive tried the bluevision bulbs before but these look alot better :happy2:

-
Cheers Brett, I'll be buying some today! :happy2:
-
....
Can you fit these M-tec side lights if you've got Xenons?
-
^^^^ Brett has got Xenons Robin
-
I am not 100% sure on this but be believe there are issue with these bulb's as they aren't 'E' marked so might not be road legal ???
-
^^^^
Thanks, Steve - Useful info :happy2:
I'm not going to risk my MOT etc for the sake of such bulbs. I had to read the riot act to get my LED DRL's through my MOT, but that was pig-ignorance on his part until I presented my EU documentation.
-
hi guys just checked the listing and its says "100% U.K. road legal and suitable for Vehicle inspection". they dont look too blue or bright, they look just right :happy2:
-
Brett is there any hint of yellow in them at all? Just curious, as I wont buy them if they contain yellow.
  :jumpmove:
-

Thanks Brett, I can't see any yellow in them! :happy2:
-
Any issues identified (with the bulbs) since the review? Please post a link from where to get these from.
Cheers!
-
Just bought some, so lets hope that I'm impressed! My current sidelights have no yellow whatsoever in them, in fact they are more bluey than white (not chavvy though), so I hope that these don't even have a hint of yellow !!
-
I'd like to gem some please... Where did you them from and how much were they?
-
Mojo - the OP explains all that in his first post...................
Hids Direct eBay shop, and £3.99 + P&P :happy2:

Yeah they are easy! The old ones will require a mighty pull to get out though!!!!! You will also probably scrape your knuckles as you do this!!!

Me too :happy2:
What are the sidelights like to get out on the Xenons? Aren't they right at the bottom of the back of the headlight unit?

Me three :happy2:
And yes the lights are right at the bottom on the unit so be ready for knuckle scraping time
-
Any suggestions of what I need to do for a similar conversion for the fog lights?

there not too bad to get out there behind the smallest rubber cap on the back of the lights (xenons), you have to pull them inwards to the middle of the car as there pointing towards the wing. they can require a very good tug :happy2:
-
Am going to order some of those :happy2:
Cheers
-
Mine arrived today and Im very impressed! :happy2:
I already had the phillips ice blue W5W's in and these made them look very Orange! Although not as bright as regular W5W's they are indeed very white and compliment the Xenon's really well! :happy2:

So i dont think i have this set up... i thought it was an American thing, maybe im wrong.. and its just not a feture in 1.9 TDi's
-
^^ He has Xenon Headlights :happy2:
-
yeah steves right mine are xenons but i think the normal headlights can be modded so the sidelights in the same place
-
Folks, I've had these bulbs for a a few weeks now...still can't work out where the hell to pull the old ones out from so I can replace them.
One side has the water bottle obstructing and the other my air intake kit... any got pics showing where/how to install these?
Many thanks...!
P.S. Took the car to the dealership today. They said I had to remove the headlights to replace the side bulbs - becoz I have xenons. To be honest I don't believe them!!!
-
You shouldn't believe them as thats bollox!
Theres a rubber cover at the bottom of the headlight unit. Once removed it's just a matter of pulling the bulb holder out (be prepared to lose the feeling in your fingers ).
If your @ the next meet I'll happily do it for you. :happy2:
-
they really are quite easy they must be trying it on with the lights out job, when you look at the back of the light you will see 2 rubber caps and 1 big plastic one, the plastic one is the xenon headlight bulb (nearest the wing) the bigger rubber cap is the full beam bulb and the smaller rubber cap contains the sidelights.
to swap the sidelight bulbs remove the small rubber cap and remember the bulbs arent facing forwards there pointing out sidewards towards the wings, try have a look to see the wires it may help to use a mirror. grab the wires and pull towards the middle of the car they may require a sharpish tug, id suggest startin with the passenger side as its easier to see and do hth
-
Cheers guys... Greenouse may well see you at DC09... still trying to figure out what I'll be paying the tenner entry fee for though?
P.S. A bit strapped for cash...V4 disc and the motorbike test I took on Saturday didn't help matters.
P.P.S I need more speed - I figured getting a motorbike might help me quench my desire!
-
Well i've finally got these in after putting 1 in from the first set and my mate putting the other one on his roof and it blowing of and smashing :angry015: i then had to get another set but all fitted now and they're spot on :happy2:
-

VW do there own blue coated sidelamp bulbs - part number N 017 753 10 - all 'E' marked and completely legal.
And the Philips blue VisionPlus ones which www.PowerBulbs.com supply (free with a pair of H7s) are also fully legal.
-
I might have to invest in a couple of pairs of these as the Phillips Bluevision ones certainly aint blue or white.
:happy2:

....Do these give a 'sharper' more blue tinted/biassed light? I find the stock sidelights very yellow/cream and dull.
-
Photos would be nice plz.
-
Looks like a good mod.
I'm starting to make my list of little tweaks for when I collect my car on Fri! :happy2:
-
These sidelights are excellent. Pure white light, with the smallest hint of blue. Perfect. And trust me, there's nothing i hate more than yellow lights hahaha!

I've had my bulbs for several months now...I guess I should get round to installing them this weekend.
-
I would totally recommend these bulbs. Such a simple mod but with a big impact in terms of style. Just bear in mind you'll probably get angry changing them thanks to spatial restrictions, but it's well worth it. Besides, who doesn't enjoy forcing their fist into a tight space? :signLOL:
I've tried lots of different bulbs as I'm fussy, these are always my choice for sidelights.

Yes - a million times better than the standard fit. :happy2:

Only when it is wet and warm! :jumpmove:
-
Just ordered after pratting about with 2 side by side LED bulbs that are too wide. Half the cost too. Result!

Just went to install my bulbs and was told that they are the wrong fitment/type. :sad1:

Any way of losing the yellow middle part of the front indicator in the headlamp with Xenons ?
-

replace the bulb with a silver vision one, chrome painted bulb that flashed orange - removes the "yolking" of the lens :happy2:
EDIT: thats assuming its not a painted reflector... easiest way of checking is to remove the bulb (which will be orange) and if the yolking goes then silver visions are the fix :happy2: if the yolking remains then a bulb swap wont work
-
R32 Xenons have a clear bulb

R32 Xenons have a clear bulb
....So if we had a part # we could use those in a GTI Xenon instead of faffing around with fleeBay.

R32 Xenons have a clear bulb
So the silvervisions will work in he gti xenons??
-
the mk5 xenons have an orange coloured lense so putting a different bulb (eg. silvervision/ chrome bulb) wont change the look of the lights :sad1:

Turns out I had the right ones...side light bulbs aren't that bright though!
P.S. A bitch to replace...
