Title: Thunderbunny front kit...
Post by: cmdrfire on March 15, 2009, 10:29:32 pm
So, just askin' as a hypothetical here...
What's your opinion, as mk5 enthusiasts, fans, and lovers, of the VWoA "Thunderbunny" kit for the GTI?
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Foempl.us%2Fbmz_cache%2F5%2F54676043e314d17479bd17f90dc6a610.image.750x499.jpg&hash=b85a94d8704878c5439951b2db3f81e5b6b2dc00)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fcache.jalopnik.com%2Fassets%2Fresources%2F2006%2F11%2Fvw_thunderbunny_sema.jpg&hash=7b52baa87f3e2fbdb9202a6efcb01ac56096ee01)

(not quite Thunderbunny, but close)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.motorpasion.com%2Fimages%2FVolkswagen_R_GTI_Thunder_Bunny-1.jpg&hash=95f3d238be02302b6f9071d84e04203cce59e21a)

More specifically, but still entirely hypothetical (and possibly because I'm bored, and avoiding coursework), what d'you think about a Laser Blue GTI with the Thunderbunny kit (and a red stripe added on...)?

Edit, and while I'm thinking of ways to spend money I don't have, what's the general consensus on the Caractere "Sports" rear spoiler? Those of you who know me know I'm not much of one for bodykitting and so forth, but as I'm likely going to have to replace my rear spoiler anyway (failed brake light necessitating cutting it off) I may as well swap the OEM one for this one:

To me it looks like it is off another model, middle section is ok but the lower outer bits look like the have been left to close to a open fire.

It's a funny one for me, I love it on the Jetta TDI race cars, but I think I'd only consider it if i had a "base" model Golf MK5.

i was not keen on it at first but after seeing it on the vwr car and on this

LOL, not too well received so far then :P
I dunno, sometimes I quite like it, other times it just looks like the car has a really massive chin... neanderthal-like. Might need to check out VWR in person some day to see it in person.
What's the thought on the Caractere spoiler?

i like it but the its so oversize the final look is VERY dependent on the right choice of wheels (e.g. the VWR car looks great)
so budget for a drop and some 19's and yes do it  :signLOL:

I had that exact same Caractere spoiler on one of my old MKV's. When I first got it I wasn't so sure but when it was painted and fitted it looked awesome! I got so many positive comments about it  :happy2:

I quite like the Thunderbunny front but I only think it looks right on a highly modified car, it just looks out of place on the standard White MKV pictured above

I've always liked it and if I were to change my front bumper it would be for one of those. I think it would suit a darker colour better  :happy2:

Technically, it is OEM, but I know what you mean :P
I'm really curious now what it would like in Laser Blue.

....

I thought I didn't like it but I love VWR's 300R as a drive so much that I now like her Thunderpussy Thunderbunny. I prefer my car's front styling though.

It's like a stunningly pretty girl - She can wear a black plastic bin liner and she'll still look a million dollars [thoughts of half-Japanese half-American ex-GF who once wore such a liner for a fancy dress party ]

I prefer the stock GTI front or the CF front that Neilm has :happy2:

The Caractere front looks good and maybe there is one going cheap if Awesome are taking all the bits off their GTI now :happy2:

Not a fan of the Caractere front tbh, but that rear sports spoiler does seem nice. Anyone know how much the OEM version retails for?

If, if I get this it'll be laser blue (of course) but the bit between the two grilles will be black and there will be a thin red stripe on the upper grille to keep it GTI-ish. I'm telling you boys, the more I look at this the better I like it, I think it'd look awesome in blue. It's RR's fault for posting those pics! Time to start counting pennies I suppose...

Do it.

You can always sell it on further down the line, there's always going to be a market for that kind of stuff.

I'd code the sides and rear valance too, see how in this picture the natural line across the bottom of the car doesn't flow and makes the bumper actually look bigger. If someone could 'chop this and colour them in, you'll see what I mean.

VWR's R300 has been colour coded etc since I last drove her in this pic.

She's a demo car and constantly a work-in-progress.

I figure I can always ship one in from VWoA if I need to but I think I'll hit VWR first. Won't be done for awhile anyway as I just blew a load of cash on new computer bits and my Leica  :scared: then got to sort out the rear taillight on the car first! I have too many expensive hobbies!

It'll have red piping and a GTI badge and a black centre "shield", fear not.

You could buy Awesome's old Oettinger kit off them, subtle but nice. They're putting that MKV back to standard and flogging its guts.

Nah. didn't like the mesh on the Oettinger. Also the fitment in the pic looks quite bad.

Thing is, if I get a Thunderbunny front end, I'd also have to change the upper slat things to honeycomb. Hmn...
Any photoshop wizards want to paint one blue?

cmdrfire is right - The Awesome's oettinger grill mesh is awful. The Thunderbunny is much better quality.
