Post by: mortygttdi on March 17, 2009, 06:51:25 am
Well it was forecast nice weather for the weekend so thought I would start a good clean on the car. I started friday about 1pm below in order of job.

As no 1
Soaked wheels with heavily dilute Megs S/Degreaser and aggitated with wheel brush
As no 1
TBM wash with Zymol auto wash and Megs MF mit
Saturday Morning I started again
Clayed with Sonus green - lubed with diluted CG extreme Maxi Suds 2
As no 1
Rotory polished with sonus polishing pad and Megs #80
Rinsed off once more just to get rid of the dust and polish
Sealed with Megs #21
Waxed with Collinite 915 Marque D' Elegance & a Megs applicator
 Sunday
Waxed again second coat of #915

Im sorry I only have after shots not progress pics or befores but it wasn't that mucky any way.

Wow looks lush.

Am absolutely lovin' the completely black front of the car - it's something I've been toying with the idea of but haven't committed. Biggest issue for me is removing the GTI badge is a permanent change.

How come? You can just go to a dealer and buy a replacement for £20 to put back on the car when you sell!

Because you'd have to modify the grille to get rid of the bit where the badge is stuck, otherwise it just looks funny.

Oh sorry Stealth, i misunderstood....you are looking to fully debadge the front - not just paint the badge black.  :happy2:

Kinda. Not fully debadge - the VW logo would stay, albeit in black. Still not sure whether I should keep the stripe red or paint it black like the OP.

Phil Ive just not got round to changing the fog grill,  I got the full grill set off a lad on another forum and its what came not sure why???

Cal Tdi it cost me about £25 for material which was about 4 meters of feux black suede and proper heat resistant automotive fabric glue...it has to be heat resistant other wise the fabric unsticks and sags down or bubbles up.  There is a couple of things I still would like to take out and redo but for the moment its okay. And it took me about 2 days in all to do myself

Scott Ill get some of the gear knob close up im not sure how much they cost cos it was in the car when I bought it along with the gti steering wheel and MFD2.

Thanks for the kind words all of you

Darren

Ok well im confused now! No idea what you want to do!

For me, full debadge = remove GTI from grille + remove VW from grille + remove GTI, ED30 and VW from back
What I want = remove GTI from grille + black VW badge. But if you remove the GTI, you get a plastic tab left over on the grille where the GTI was stuck. Would have to mod the grille to get of this. If I later wanted to add back the GTI, new grille needed!

Yeah but yours is vinyl-covered! :P

It's bad enough I'm gonna have to hide those rims once I bought them so no one knows I spent £££ on it. Now you're tempting me with the grille!

Begone she-devil!

a well deserved pat on the back for that one mate i thought it was a prof. retrim when a first saw the pictures. im guessing you had all the trim off to do it? i replaced the passenger a-pillar trim last weekend and that was enough for me. give me an engine transplant any day  just no annoying clips and reaching around to look through the windscreen to see if all the clips are linned up :signLOL:
