Title: achievibg good 1/4 mile times
Post by: Janner_Sy on June 22, 2011, 06:39:58 pm
Ill be doing the first 1/4 mile in the fabia this weekend at inters.  What's the best way of launching dsg, bearing in mind I dont have launch control.

Also how much if an improvment do you think I would make by stripping out the rear seats and spare tyre etc or is it not'worth it

Get rpms up a little, manual mode in dsg with traction control off and hold the car on the brake pedal with left foot.

Will take a bit of practice, try launching in 2nd as well.

Well I just had a go at seeing at how easy it is to strip the seat out. As it hapens its all quick'release latches so no sockets required thought it would be rude not to weigh it all :jumpmove:

Seats benches and backs, spare tyre, tool kit, parcel shelf weigh a shopping 46.4kg.

If im running 213hp at 1200kg that's 177.5hp/ton

Drop that 49.5kg and that will make me 185hp/ton

What realistic difference will 10hp/ton make over a 1/4 mile.  I guess less weight over the rear can only be a good thing'for weight transfer

firstly for a  fast time, you need a fast car

secondly, it must don a VW badge and have GTI on the boot lid,

If it's got a skoda badge....... Forget it :signLOL:

being serious for a change, I've found short shifting from 1st into 2nd with DSG helps with getting the wheels to keep a grip on the Tarmac.

if your running Saturday, the track surface might be wet, Sunday's looking better for track action.

Why would you take your rear seats out, it's not a race car , don't you want to see your true 1/4 mile?
Unless you drive around all day with no rear seats  :signLOL:

As long as you dont try and launch with more the 2500 RPM you should be fine. Dont mash the pedal in first after that you should get grip with your foot flat down i did .  :driver:

Sy will be going for a steady state run wrapped in cling film in the morning  :P

No harm in only using 1/4 tank and no washer fluid tho

Tbh after been out in Blades polo you can pretty much floor it and forget. They dont have huge torque so grip isnt really an issue. launch around 2000rpms and then sit back and :indifferent:

DSG will do the rest.

Vrs weighs 1200kg with a 90% full tank.

Make sure you have under half a tank and you'll drop another 20kg off the weight too :happy2:

I too would suggest a shortshift to 2nd gear as the supercharger will definitely overwhelm the tyres if you don't

Don't bother messing with anything of the DSG, just hold it on the brake as you would normally do at a set of lights and then press the fast pedal when the lights turn

dont think they make u wear a lid at Inters unless u have a cage / open top / or serious monstrous power

dont think Ben or Steve used a lid last year and i certainly didn't.
