Hi all, i have tried the search but couldnt find much about mpg on the tdi's,
i have a 2006 mkv 2.0tdi gt tdi 4mo and fuel economy is crap,i filled the car to the brim and ran it til empty and it worked out i was doing around 33mpg (worked out manually) :surprised:, have scanned with vagcom and nothing, thinking Maf could be gone?
any advice would be greatful
thanks craig

Craig if this is round town driving then its about right, the 16valve BKD diesel engine is not has frugal has the older PD engine but it feels smoother
It does seem to come into its own when on longer journeys.

I've got the same problem on my 1.9 BXE (which is mapped). It's strange though, as mine started when the weather started getting warm about a month ago. It hit 27 degrees one day and ever since its been as bad as a petrol. Full WOT in 2nd achieves 9mpg on the instantaneous meter.
I found something on another forum where people were doing tricks to reset the ECU which helped people. Basically pulling the battery for X amount of time. Another was put the ignition on and hold down the accelerator for 10 seconds or 10 minutes (can't remember which). I attempted the accelerator one which helped a little, I can't get it down to 9mpg again but it still goes as low as 12 :(
Not sure if it's worth trying either of those. My average drives return between 38-45(tops)mpg where as It used to be 45 even when constantly hammering it and 50 plodding around.

most of it i was driving sensibly (only had it for a week so still getting used to it) most of it was 12 miles to work which is good roads mainly 40mph and 60mph roads?
will give your methods a go
thanks craig

Seems about right that my mapped 170 only gives high 20's round town but on a run where it can stretch it's legs it gets over 50mpg and I've got 540 to a tank .. Pics to prove in cars for sale section... Shameless plug :innocent: but needs must :P

Hi,
According to book, the mpg figures for a 2.0tdi 4 Motion is:
Urban: 36.70MPG
Extra Urban: 56.50MPG
Combined: 47.90MPG
A standard 2.0Tdi GT is:
Urban: 41.50MPG
Extra Urban: 60.10MPG
Combined: 51.40MPG
A 2.0GT Sport TDi DSG is:
Urban: 35.80MPG
Extra Urban: 57.60MPG
Combined: 47.10MPG
Hope that helps.

Thats not around town, done several 12 mile journeys on good roads (work) and a couple of 50 mile trips (paintablling, picking the car up etc)
i put in 72quid and got 400 miles so work out 35mpg, will also see how well i get on this tank
