Title: Trip computer / fuel gauge accuracy.
Post by: alackofspeed on June 28, 2011, 06:47:24 pm
I drove back 450 miles from Germany yesterday, and according to the fuel computer I had 25 miles range in the tank (just under 1/8th of a tank on the gauge), with 1 mile left to go..... then the car died as I left a roundabout.

I've often seen ~10 miles range before filling up, so to conk out due to a lack of fuel, came as a bit of a surprise.

Has anyone else enjoyed the strange sense of humour of German trip computer engineers? :stupid:

Ive done 10 miles with the range saying 0. I was coming back from Leeds and I had many opportunities to fill up, however i took the risk as i wanted V Power :driver:

Its dropped to 0 a couple of times on me but it calculates it on driving style (had it rise from 0 to 15 before) and everything else, plus I'm sure when it hits 0 it comes from the reserve tank... I've also heard that resetting the trip each time you refuel can make it more accurate but don't quote me on that

When I was on my way to fuel up ready for Inters , mine had 5 miles in reserve according to the MFA - I put £66 of Tesco Momentum 99 in (that was all the cash i had on me!) and it still wasnt full - 48 litres went in. Incidentally , on the way home , I got 40.4 MPG average , my best ever....just as well as I put BP Ultimate in @ Donnington services...feckin £1.51 a litre!  :surprised: No wonder i was in conservation mode!

Filled up before leaving for GTI International and by the time I returned home had travelled 371.7 miles, fuel warning went to 0 about 2 miles before the petrol station. Put in 56.31 litres of V Power so £79.90. That's 30 mpg
