Title: GTi water pump replacement.
Post by: Black9 on June 28, 2011, 10:31:29 pm
Hey guys just picked up my Golf GTI today and really enjoying it, not quite as fast as I expected but very smooth and comfortable. Q is the previous owner said the water pump was replaced at 60K but has no receipt for this, so to be safe should I just get it replaced!? Also how could tell if it's on the way out? It's currently on just under 80K, today whilst driving it fairly vigorously the cooling fan came on a few times but seeing as today was quite warm could this be the reason!....

Don't worry.  Unless you are going into the cam belt area to change the belt, i wouldn't bother.

The fan coming on will be normal, is has been F'in hot today.

If you plan on changing the Cam belt, i personally would change the pump, rather than pay again some time later, it is virtually the same task.
