Title: Which Intake? All views and comments welcomed
Post by: Lee01 on June 29, 2011, 12:09:58 pm
Hi All,

I am shopping around for an intake and was after some advice.
I am not fussed about claimed performance increase's however I would like to enhance the sound of the turbo / waste gate chatter / DV.

Does anyone have any experiences?

Thanks in advance guys

Lee

For sound it has to be the ITG, but the Evoms is a close second to me  :happy2:

BDM which is pretty loud like the ITG sounds lovely especially on a cold damp morning.

But you have to live with it and I couldn't................or should I say my wife!

.
Don't forget to also consider the Forge Twintake - Much prettier than the ITG, comparable performance and not so loud. As always it depends what floats yer boat.

Good gains from either the ITG or forge twintake and then choosing between the two would be down too how much noise you want>, forge being the quieter :happy2:

I'm liking the look of the ITG and the lure of it being slightly louder. It's currently £360 from Merlin >> Linky (http://"http://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/p14726/ITG-VAG-2.0Ltr-TFSI-INDUCTION-KIT/product_info.html")

Does anyone know of any deals on this at the mo? Supply and fit would be good!

Perhaps I will wait and see if anyone has these at Bug Jam as I would like to see it in the flesh.

Having had the EVOMS on my last car and now the ITG on the current one i can safely say that the EVOMS is loud as foook.

The ITG you can hear a bit at low revs if you back off quickly but otherwise the noise is no where near as noticable as EVOMS.

I have heard the Forge Twintake in Robins car and i would say it is comparable to the ITG (I'm referring to a TSi ITG which is an enclosed cone & not a TFSi one which is an open cone)

Look at the BDM intake.

It's like the ITG but bigger filter. Sounds insane!

Turbo chatter is very loud if u want it to be  :happy2:

Well, I like my evoms  am interested in putting on an ITG and doing some back to back logging though (so they can be compared-same environmental variables). If I did not already have a CAI I would be drawn to the ITG..

Yes, I do agree. I am a particularly fastidious person and the fitment and logos on the hoses look spot on.

Does anyone know how much modification is required to the engine cover to get this to fit with the ITG intake?

Chop the back off, and the right hand side.

I second that, and would think you may have just made my decision much easier  :happy2: Thanks Keano

Silly question, but there is no potential problems with water being sucked into the intake?  I also notice you have not fitted the heat shields, - any reason for this?

Its a Backdraft intake mate, these are not supplied with a heatshield like the ITG. Not much difference between them other than that though.

Looks very tidy btw Keano, top job!  :happy2:

Right here is a video of the sound of the itg. Just so everone knows the car is up on axel stands with the bottom dog bone mount off. my engine does not move that much usually  :signLOL: mid way through fitting new anti roll bar bushes to shouldnt really have started her up but thought id try to let you see how it sounds and also worth pointing out that under load it is alot louder and more aggressive sounding  :happy2:

Oh and im aware its upside down haha
