dunlops perhaps?

does it get louder going round a round about?

My rears - Conti Sport 2 - are nearly worn to the TWI marks and they make the sound that you describe. Not bad they have done nearly 40,000 miles! :congrats:

thank's for the replies guys ill do a bit of investigating to narrow things down.

Seen the dealers change the wheel bearing thinking it was that,it turned out to be the tyre was out of shape

Yeah noise only starts when i get over 40mph, so will it be wheel bearing?
-
that would be my first port of call. all you need to do now is suss out which wheel it is coming from... or jack up each corner and give each wheel a wobble to see if they move at all. they should be tight so if one rocks a little thats your culprit :happy2:
let us know how you get on..

Just an update, I recently replaced both rear tyres (falkens) with some Vreds ultras, and the noise has gone.

The MK5 chassis does tend to eat rear tyres, and make them out of shape. It's happened on both of mummy mk5s.
