Title: DSG service complaint
Post by: Gladiator on June 30, 2011, 09:40:53 am
Hi guys

I had sort of mentioned this on another recent query on DSG but would appreciate your thoughts/feedback as to what you would do....

Basically read yesterday that the DSG oil and filter should be changed at 40k but after having my car serviced at 38k and again at 41k for the cambelt and water pump, VW failed to advised or carry out the DSG service!

They also failed to carry out the brake fluid change at the 38k service and ended up doing it for free whilst the cambelt was being done but only because I queried it.

Very shoddy in my opinion and I'm now thinking they should do the same with the DSG service as it could have been left for another 10k had I not again queried it.

I've just spoken to the service manager who's taking a look at the notes and I'm waiting a call back.  Should I insist on this being done for free as this is negligence on their behalf and yet another trip back to them wasting my time or would you settle for a discount off the price?

Sorry for the length of this but your help would be appreciated.

Just a quick update......service manager called back, very helpful and agreed to cover cost of labour and also do the oil and filter at cost price, I'm happy with that but overall disappointed with the lack of attention when servicing in general.

That's a good result. Afraid to say my local VW dealer (JCB VW) are poor in all aspects too, from sales to parts/service!

Mine has got full VW history from the previous owner, but I'll be taking it to a specialist instead from now on.

Have you discussed the issue with regareds to the extended warranty with the service manager as unless its covered off now you could still have issues in the future.

All in I would be happy with the reduced cost if they will provide details and confirmation that the delay in doing the service wont be affecting your extended warranty or any future good will on behalf of VW due to their lack of attention.

There's a buffer on the warranty mileage, if it's genuinely only on 41k and the service is fully documented, it should be fine.

I hear nothing but bad reports abouts VW service on here. I've never had a single problem with them. My local dealer network (Colbornes Group) are helpful, knowledgeable, prefessional and always do a good job. Apart for the sales staff at Camberley who are rude and ignorant...

Mileage is now at 41,800 but I have to go up to Norfolk this weekend and the DSG service is booked in on Monday so mileage will be in low 42k by the time it's done, do you think this is an acceptable buffer?

I'm going to speak to the person that sold me the warranty who also works for the same chain of VW Citygate to cover myself as I'm sure the warranty company will try and squirm out of a claim if linked to the DSG in future!!

I got my Car from Camberley and they were less than helpful in the sales department, the servicing department and parts department on the other hand have been great.

Which VW Citygate dealer do you use?

My closest is Citygate South Ruislip. Only been there once for my MOT (March) so far and they seemed to be pretty decent. They advised me of the coilpack recall, which I would have mentioned if they didn't.

I am planning on using them for my next service (around Nov), which should include the DSG service.

I bought the car from Citygate Chalfont and the sales guy Martin was great as it took me about 8 months before I was ready to buy and he was very patient and helpful.  I get her serviced at Citygate Bushey (near Watford) and although the service team there are friendly and helpful it seems their attention to detail i.e missing crucial service items needs improving!

I've been happy though with how they put things right so will continue to use them.....for now!!

Agree, Camberley service department is good, but to be honest, they can all be a bit hit and miss. I know Hedge has had his fair share of conversations with Martin's. Come to think of it, I'm sure I have seen your car at Martin's in the past Rich..

More than likely Dom, they have serviced it for me since purchase as I had to get the sales department to contribute to some work for me!  :fighting:
