hi gang
had stage 2 done-the car is so much more than it was lol
but last few days- it seems to be missing., a bit stuttery esp theough 2-3500 rpm- she also hates pottering around at the mo- and its intermittent-not all the time.
vagcom threw no faults/codes so WTF could it be?
also i,m not sure if my imgination but the exhaust seems to be much boomier these past few days and i,m sure i can smell petrol fumes more than ive noticed before but that might just be me getting paranoid
i,m in touch by email with the mapper-just needed some input from the techies on here.
could it be heat soak-its been mental hot or even fuel pump issues??
thanks in advance :sad1:

anyone? :popcornsoda:

Did you have anything else done apart from stage 2 around the same time?
If not then there is a raft of parts that could have gone with the extra pressure on the car.
If you can smell petrol and the parts on the car are okay, then the car may just be running too rich on the map and the hot weather may have made this worse (less volume of air/metre squared in hot weather). Running rich can also affect the sparkplugs. Have you got anyone who has VCDS near you who can look at your AFR?
Don't panic yet Matsu :happy2:
-
i had it put on the vagcom on weds mate and it showed no codes but to b honest-he is very old school and looked at me as if to say.....well, you went and made all these changes :fighting:
will any diagnostic system show up what youre thinking about ,or just a vagcom unit?
dont forget, its the forum numpty :sad1: you talking to mrH :drinking:
and tank you

You need to use VAGCOM reading the AFR (air to fuel ratio) with the car under load on a run from around 2000rpm to the redline, this will give you a reading and then post up the logs if you can. :happy2:

Just to elaborate on this, you need to log block 031 for your lambda. You get the AFR by multiplying the lambda value by 14.7

ok thanks guys
i think i need to go back to storm and get on the RR. get this sorted!

Mine has also started missing in the past 2 days. Done nothing to the car apart from fill up with a tank of fuel a couple of days ago. Mine misses but only when the engine is under load at 2k in 4th gear. I was seeing if my P0299 fault code was there and testing the boost on the car. Its fine when going through the gears but just misses under load when in higher gear. I am going to run the tank of fuel down as it could be a bad batch of fuel. I use Momentum 99, what fuel are you using as it could be one and the same problem.

Could be the pcv
-
Im running a catch can now and have checked all the hoses etc. It is a strange one but it only started in the last couple of days so I am thinking poor petrol quality.
-
took the car back to storm today and we reckon its the maf on the intake.
the vcds showed no faults and bloody typically the car behaved impeccibly when tested on a few good runs whilst trying to replicate the missing issue!
and yet it did it temporarily on the drive up there!
we removed the maf and it was red hot,...as was the intake pipe- its a neuspeed p-flo.. and i noticed the sh*tzen mechanic hasnt put the heat sheild on either so we are assuming its heat that is almost cooking the sensor.
we replaced it and i,m getting the heat shield put on ASAP, andi,m also going to coat it in high temp paint to see if it stops it.
i was thinking od either wrapping the pipe in heat tape...or getting the extension pipe to run the filter down to behind the fog lights.....failing that i,m gonna have to look at twintake.....again but i,m skint :sad1:
anyone in the know ...please add your thoughts to try help me out.
thank you in advance

When I had my intake on I fitted the heat shield and just wrapped the pipe with exhaust wrap. Equally you can buy heat shield tape and wrap that around. I recently put heat shielding tape under my OE engine cover that reflects upto 90% of the radiant heat. It cost me £16 for 10 meters and that would be more than enough to completely wrap the pipe.
I puchased mine from here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300563370760&category=38786&_trksid=p5197.c0.m619 (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300563370760&category=38786&_trksid=p5197.c0.m619)

I'm running a p flow, as long as you fit the heat shield provided with the kit you should be ok :happy2:

Heat shield? I never got one with the Trueseal and I have no probs. Tbh the air is in the tube for a fraction of a second it's just not enough time to get hot enough plus it goes through the intercooler after that :popcornsoda:

It does my friend however if you draw in cooler air it takes less of an effort for the intercooler to cool it back down after going through the turbocharger as it is denser. Hot air is not as dense so doesnt cool down as much, which is why all the racing teams in WRC, F1 etc fit heat shielding to prevent heatsoak and to keep every last hp they can. I cant find the page I read it on to link it but it was very in depth about the turbocharging process and heatsoak, which is what prompted me to put heat shielding under my OE engine cover. Since fitting it my engine feels perkier and the engine cover is only mildly warm to touch, even reaching round to where the bottom of the air box is above the turbo/manifold it is a lot cooler after driving. Where as before fitting the heat shielding it was bloody hot to touch!
-
I read it over on the Yank forums lol. There maybe a few more ponies to squeeze out yet then

You cant beat more horse power :happy2:

i have ordered the heat tape which i will wrap the area around the maf. and also the heat shield and underneath the engine cover so nicely adapted by big AL.
and i will spraying the engine cover/the rest of the intake pipe and the heat shieldwith high temp engine paint.
so fingers crossed it sorts it all out
thanks for everyones help and input.

have you got a link to the heat tape?

still no fault codes shown
i havent fitted the heat sheild yet as havent driven car much at all-will do that tomo
i,m looking for ideas./poss solutions to actually take to a mechanic as i cant get to the place that mapped it.
its doing me head in!
someone mentioned a pcv- what is that and what are symptoms of it failing?
any ideas please-i,m phoning amd tomo to see if they can look at hey can look at it.
thanks in advance

Matsu,
PCV allows the crankcase to vent (Positive Crankcase Vent) worth reading
http://forums.fourtitude.com/showthread.php?3590165-eurojet-pcv-fix (http://forums.fourtitude.com/showthread.php?3590165-eurojet-pcv-fix)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crankcase_ventilation_system (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crankcase_ventilation_system)
if the PCV fails then you will experience an eratic idle as the crank case wont be in vacum if PCV is the issue then there are a few fixes from OEM replacement to PCV fixes that remove the issue I think Danish recently fitted one to his car, as you have your engine cover removed it will be easy to see the PCV as it has a nice round part at the front center of your engine.

If its missing at all speeds I would suggest new plugs. The misfire my car had earlier in the topic was cured by fitting new plugs even though the plugs that were knackered were only 2 months old :surprised: If it is still doing it then check your coil packs but they normally would bring up a fault code.
-
ok thanks guys
i need to book it in and get it looked at.
i did the pcv test thing- i undid the dipstick on idle and the car changed
i undid the oil cap and the car ran like sh*t-but cant rememeber which way round this means!

fingers crossed....service done today-just picked her up and no stuttering at all.
my local guy said the plugs were serious manky so i hope that was the origianl issue!
got me toes crossed also... :drinking: thanks to everyone for their input.

Get chance ti snap some pics? Which intake is it you have?

I have the OE engine cover fitted. I was going to take some pics but I have broken my foot and am just about able to walk on it. I am going to see if I can get out tomorrow and take some pics as something to do

Matsu if it were me I would get AFR checked, It could well be running too lean. I seriously doubt the heat issue but a lean AFR would not help this either. Stage 2 seems to be on the limit of the standard fuel pump anyway.
