Title: Leaves under drivers door hinge
Post by: DaveR77 on June 30, 2011, 03:48:44 pm
Does anyone else get loads of leaves under the drivers door hinge, they keep coming out of the hole near the bottom of the wing. Do they get sucked under the car or something and trapped there?

Mine does this. Bit annoying but they don't build up too much

I think then get in through the wheel arch liner and from the plastic trim by the wipers. Worth removing as the damp that they hold has been known to cause rust in that area.

I have slight rust, think it gets caught behind the arch liner as Boothy has said, and it also goes through the rain gutters.
I changed my plastic trim in front of the windscreen last week, and the amount of mouldy leaves there was horrendous, they were everywhere!
If you do get rust in the door sill then take it to  VW and try to get them to sort it under warranty.

Very little, just jack, remove wheel, give that a clean whilst its off, remove 10-12 t star screws and pull out, then be surprised if you have any tress growing in the sills.
 :signLOL:

Ive done my mk4 3 times now in 5 years, just this week there was 6-7" of silt build up when i chamged the arch liners

Just had a look inside mine for the 1st time. 56K 2007 ed30....

Empty, nothing in there.. nothing like the photo. Could be that car was used off road many times?

Not too much, take off the wiper stalk bungs, then unscrew the bolts, and pull off the wiper.
Then starting at the one end of the window pull the plastic up slowly but firmly, there are a couple of clips, but not the sort you press down or anything, just the sort that hold the piece in place.

Hope that helps.

You can see under the scuttle panel if you remove the rubber seal and pry the corner up it will show you if its worth doing.  The leaves come in from the corner of the window and where the air vent are for the auto HVAC and they then get washed down to the bottom of the wing door interface its where the water is designed to run.
