Thinking of leaving virgin media as I pay crazy money at the mo for broadband and phone so what's everyone on and what the customer services like ie phoning India does my head in :rolleye:
-
Sky's basic package which effectively costs me £2.50 a month as I have a landline contract with them too. Speedtest.net results consistantly show 3Mb/s download which is more than adequate for me. When I've phoned them I seem to speak to English people.
-
I was with sky before virgin and it was shocking service I must have had 5 routers from them and called india a few times a month and that p1ssed me off big time
-
If you want IMO the best broadband supplier go with BE THERE or O2 broadband.
Their call centers are not in the UK but speak exceptional English and the twice I have had an issue with my line, the first time it took 8hours to resolve and that was by getting a BT engineer to me! in 8 hours!
The 2nd time i had a new router with me next day and you deal with one person via email or phone from start to Finnish.
I have the bonded pro package so 2lines bonded together because cable or fiber is available yet in my area and i run a web server and a BES server.

Previous to Sky I'd been with BT for about 7 years and although I never had a problem with the serive, I did get annoyed with paying £24.95 a month for 2.5Mb/s, even more so when I switched to Sky (nothing physical changed) yet I get an increase in line speed and save over £20 a month! Have even managed to move home and Sky did a good job of it, no charge although I had to change my number and it took 2 weeks to activate the line at the new house as they had to wait for a BT Openreach engineer to do his bit first. Other than that, no complaints so far!
-
anyone got BT Infinity?
-
Hedge has. :sad1:
-
Ahh haa! Im being badgered by BT to have it, they must have rang me 10 times this week (I ignored 9 of them)
I should get 33.3Mb download 7.5Mb upload according to BT!
-
How much is that a month?
-
How much is that a month?
£18 PM for 40GB and weekend calls
£28 PM for unlimited and anytime calls
-
That would be awesome.
I'm having line issues at the moment, I've spent the last 3 weeks or so at between 200 and 350 kb. At the moment my line is capped at 500kb despite being sync'd at 2.2Mb.
Four engineer visits and we're still having issues.

Unless you stream HD porn movies or a serious amount of data, is it worth it?
Edit: The pricing isn't too bad tho!

Been looking at 02 as they are doing 6 months free broadband for 02 customers at the mo

I'm with Sky and they're rubbish, slow connection and crap router. I was with 02 and they were exceptional, only moved to Sky to get the on demand TV. I'll probably go back to them next year.
02 call centres are in Morley, Leeds - still in the UK last time I checked
-
Morley leeds that's only 10 mile from me :signLOL:

Not that much of a downside as it was free  and you can always just buy a different router
-
I'm with Be as well and get around 20Mbs down and 1.1Mb/s up...

That's the bad thing about Sky, you've got to use there routers, it against there T+C's if you change it. I'm sure people do though.

im on Be and it is a spot on service!
For peeps on be, phone up, tell them you want to leave and request your MAC key... they will offer you reduced monthly charges. I am on the unlimited package and was paying £22 a month. After requesting to leave, the monthly charge went down to £12.
If you are a new customer, before signing up, ask for a discount, dont be shy about it, just ask. They will offer 3 months free...
hope this helps

I mentioned that the Sky router seemed to have a poor wireless range but I get connected pretty well on the PS3 wireless but the iPad does not seem to pick the wireless up as well. I do not have the router in a central location in the house principally because all the phone points are on outside walls often in the corner of each room. Partly self inflicted I know but the SKY package overall is excellent including customer services.
I think the overall package (phone, fast broadband, TV) costs about £80 per month including the HD fee. expensive luxury but would not be without it.

Im on O2. No complaints and 20mb down and 2.5mb up with totally unlimited usage. Happy days
-
Looks like 02 might be best for me looking at all the offers and what I need
-
Plus side of O2 also - if you link an O2 mobile account to the connection (yours, or a friends!!) youll get a five pound monthly discount too! :congrats:

Im with virgin on the 10mb service, consistently see 8-11mb speeds.
Switched to sky for about 2 months, it was awfull so went back to virgin.
-
BT Infinity :happy2:
Only downside is that they restrict torrents a lot of the time, although where there's a will :signLOL:
Other than that, been hard to fault it - speed might dip a little in the evenings but not so you would notice - most speed tests are 37.5 down, 8.4 up or thereabouts. For £25 a month and also bearing in mind it's now uncapped I can't complain......
Before I moved back to BT I was with another ISP that also did FTTC (which is what Infinity is), and moved to BT because it was £10/month cheaper. A bit nervous about moving, so many horror stories etc, but as it turned out the Infinity service is a) a bit faster and b) more consistent than the previous one.

Virgin Media 50mbit service at home - but have decent bandwidth at work so use that for downloads really.
-
Just spoken to 02 and was all set to go so rang virgin to change and they matched them and brought my bill down £15 a month  for the same service I have now  why they just don't offer this from the get go I have no idea. 02 wanted £40 for the install so thought sounded fine until virgin said we can beat it and you don't have to change and your net is faster with us than it will be with them

This is one thing I hate, why do we have to go to the trouble of threatening to leave before being offered a discounted price. They should reward loyalty with lower prices, not up the price as time goes on and then drop it to stop us leaving.
-
O2 for me, been with them nearly 4 years since they launched broadband, great level of service, originally i received it for free due to my mobile contract, then its been £9.50 a month, now paying £4.75 a month for unlimited downloads :drinking:
