Title: Urgent help needed UPDATED
Post by: johnboy07 on July 02, 2011, 09:12:35 am
Well ive fit my new arb bushes and suspension top mounts and the knocking noise has gone. Put it all back together and the steering red light is on, it beeps three times when i turn the ignition on and i have no power steering at all.
Anyone have any ideas before i try and drive it to get it scanned somewhere?

^^^

The  steering reset will work if the steering light is yellow, but OP said the steering light is red.

Gutting, so that's a replacement rack then? Is there something to cause it going just from changing suspension over? I had most things changed on my r32 and never had this prob..?

Aye

Looks as though the wiring mightve been knocked when the ARB was changed over as the ARB runs directly underneath the connector. Its an early (05) gti too so they have the previous, more fragile steering rack.

:fighting: :fighting: :fighting: :fighting: FML haha. thanks alex appreciate the help it getting it diagnosed. now on the look out for a rack and going to just take it apd and leave it there. the more i see it sat there the more annoyed i feel. Was so carefull too but after reading up ont he problem its seems like alex said that the 05 cars had extreamly fragile sensors and some people had theirs fail from hitting a bump in the road. Need to get this sorted to carry on spending money on things i want not need  :signLOL:

I think you'll need to do some research on the rack.  I seem to remember the new type also requires an extra wiring loom.

Right an update?

Taken it to a garage to have them try to reset and reprogramme the rack and nothing so ive had to bite the bullet and get a new rack at a total cost including vat of £980. Ouch. on the plus side i have AA cover that means they are going to pay 500 towards it and it will be a new rack so i get 2years parts and labour warranty so its something.
Atm im arguing with the AA as they say ive only had my car for 10days instead of 10months and say i need to prove when i bought the car and sold my s2000 which isnt a problem just alot of hassel. Anyways was the worst outcome in the end but will ba glad to have is sorted and start spending on things i want and not have to have  :signLOL:
