as i think theres a stone lodged somewhere behind the wheel.
Ive removed the 2 mounting bolts but cant seem to lift the thing off, and there a bolt im missing that needs to be removed?
-
Are you removing the caliper slide pins to drop the actual caliper off or the caliper and the carrier?
Were the bolts you removed large 21mm or 7mm allen key types?

thought this thread was about something totally different! :signLOL:

the topm and bottom bolts (the inside ones)
certainly not the allen key ones.
was told it should come straigh off with a bit of persuasion but feels like summat else is keeping it secured :)
ive got the stone out anyway but worth knowing for the future

You should only need to remove the allen bolts and remove not the big bolts to remove the caliper the big bolt are for the carrier and you shouldnt need to remove them. If your discs are a little bit lipped then you might need to remove the pad clip as the pads will be fairly tight on the disc.

....So did I!! - I suddenly thought I was on a teenage boy's forum sharing info on how to get to first base! Once upon a time I did need to learn how to unhook a certain item of underclothing.
Back on topic, I sometimes wonder just how useful stone shields are or not. I don't have any on my rear brakes and don't have any problems so far.

I'm just preparing to change my front discs and pads and was wondering about getting the 21mm bolts undone from 140 ft/lbs. Can they be undone with the steering on full lock so that I can get a bigger leverage on them via a piece of scaffold pole or can anybody advise any other easy options/trade tricks?
Thanks in advance,
Regards,
John

I've had this problem twice, (the car related one!!) once on my Audi TTS, 6 months ago, and once on the Golf - yesterday!!
Both times were cured by a quick bit of reversing. Maybe I was lucky, but it might be worth you trying that if you haven't already. :happy2:
