Hi Guys,
I bought a new 27" iMac the other day, its an absolute beast and i love it! theres a few little things that i need a hand with at the moment... im not having much look searching. I though a seasons OS X user would be able to help me out quickly!
there will be more questions guaranteed so please check back if you want to help! haha!
right... First question...
- In quick reply boxes on forum, on my PC all i needed to do was type my reply, hit tab then hit enter to post my input. I cant do this on the mac and need to use the mouse to click "post". Now you might be thinking, whats up with using the mouse, but its so much easier to use a keyboard a lot rather than keep moving between the two.
second question....
- Ive got the extended keyboard with the numerical keypad on the end, so more functionality that the standard wireless ones. What im struggling with is being able to shift my cursor around whilst in text boxes. Say for example, i type a post then notice after typing a few paragraphs I have made a spelling mistake, i go back and correct it using the mouse to position my cursor. Now i want to carry on typing from the bottom obviously. On my windows machine, id just hit the "end" button and my cursor would shoot straight to the end of the last typed word. How the hell do i do this on my mac?
Cheers guys
Its a bit long winded but if you read it all you'll get where im coming from
-
Test
Pressing tab and hitting return

That works
-
ive been trying that but tab doesnt take me onto the "post" button. when i press tab after typing in here, it sends me to the top of the page
-
Odd... works for me.
On the second part of your question. I would either use my mouse/trackpad to select the end or just press and hold the down cursor. :happy2:
-
cheers rich. On the second part... i got it now! cmd + right or left depending if you wanna go to the start or the end!
-
Takes a while to get used to macs... but once you are acclimatised, going back to a PC is like reverting to cave scratchings! :signLOL:
-
im hoping so rich! im a believer in moving forward and me finally getting used to the os x environment will definitely be a bonus
(keep pressing fking tab then enter and having to retype my messages arghhhhhh)
-
NO idea why its not working for you :signLOL:
-
just to be crystal clear, the tab button on a mac is still the one above caps lock?? haha

-
Hopefully should sort you out mate, worked for me as the Tab Return didn't work straight off.
-
YES!!!! tab plus enter now works due to your link stu!! thanks very much
-
Everyday is a school day  :drinking:
-
Whilst on the subject of filling boxes in, another function that I really like is instant spell checking :happy2:
-
Stu... system wide spell checking is a life saver, I am useless at speeling! :star:
-
So simple, you have to wonder why the 'other' OS doesn't adopt it, especially in the current climate where people can only spell as if they were typing it on their mobile.
-
No idea. It makes perfect sense to me. I know its a bit of a fab-boy-ish thing to say but windows really does suck.
-
the instant spell thing is, i take it, where you misspell something, and have the opportunity to right click and correct it? or does it do it automatically like on the iphone?
-
Right click to correct. Right click is a two finger tap on the track pad if you have one.
-
yeh, i got that! still pulling my hair out with this folder system I have successfully used in Windows 7
-
Whats the issue? Or is it just the way its displayed?
-
Im just having trouble with how its all organised. Ive sacked off iphoto for now, im using aperture.
One thing is that bugs me, i cant copy folder in aperture. great. not!
someone may be able to help if i explain more.
When i detail a car, it gets a job number. I will end up with about 3 different sets of the same photos after photoshopping for watermarking etc. What i do presently is have a folder named "new job" with a file system inside but no photos. What i would then do is copy this "new job" folder, then rename is to say job number 598. Inside 598 there will be folder like "unprocessed" "selected for use" "full sized watermarked" "forum sized pics"
When the photos i want to use are selected i run a photoshop batch then end up with a folder filling up with watermarked photos etc.
so its really important i maintain this file system if possible.
-
I would not use aperture all at if you dont need to, and it sounds like you dont.
-
haha! ok mate, ill have another look around for organising photos like i can on aperture!
-
Its worth noting that the aperture file system is gobbledygook and looks nothing like the organised structure in aperture.
-
I have a load of folders that i have imported into Aperture (that i dont have as projects) and they look fine to me. They are just a load of random old car related stuff that i couldnt be bothered to put into specific projects.
Welcome to the light Jay. OSX is a dream to use, once you get used to its niggles. Everytime i use my works laptop (XP Pro) i press shift + 2 to go for the @ symbol.
Roll on Lion and Mission Control. Its going to revolutionise the way we use applications again in my opinion.
-
.
Jay, you will eventually get used to the Mac OS - There's always a learning curve and you have stacked up years of Windows habits to break. Once the Mac becomes natural to you, you won't look back.
If all else fails, check out the Apple Discussions forum - Lots of help there. Anything more serious, ask the techies on the AppleCare phone line.
https://discussions.apple.com/index.jspa < Registering does NOT then get you swamped with marketing junk! It's the same as on here :happy2:
Also there are lots of cool how-to vids on the Apple Support pages under the titles of 'Articles'. The Mac community is great :notworthy:
P.S. - I should have my 27" iMac too by this time next week :pomppomp: :jumpmove:
