mines an 06 reg, it has black roof lining
i understand the older and newer models differ, how do i know if mine is older or newer and what are the differences, is it things like rooflining, beesting, turbo etc?
Cheers,
Mat

My car's an '06 GTI too and my understanding is that '06 cars and earlier have the blue tinted glass and ten speaker sound system that later cars did not get due to cost-cutting measures being introduced. Not sure if there are any other bits and bobs, but sure someone else will be along in a minute to set me right! :happy2:
-
Blue tint not green on the earlier windows.
10 speakers not 8.
Aerial is in the rear window rather than the roof.
Not sure what else. :happy2:
-
Mine is a 55 plate, has blue tints, 10 speaker stereo, Black roof linnings, Black ashtray lid (rather than brushed in some early cars) but a beesting aerial in the roof.
and also my climate does not have 'dual' fuction?
-
Like big al mentioned, biggest giveaway is 05 GTI's don't have an exterior antenna and have a different emblem on the back (one curved piece rather than 2 layered pieces).
Pistons on the 05's were of a slightly higher compression ratio too... (10,5:1 vs 10,3:1 iirc)
-
grey leather SW also compared to black leather on the later ones

Is that not just the AXX code engines in general?

Mines the same but has the dual climate but its not written on the center control button
-
mines is a "05" GTI
It has bue tints, aerial in rear window, rubber surround on rear side windows (3 dr), 10 speaker system, brushed alu ashtray lid, dual climate (but not written on the button), old crappy whiteworm rear vw badge (now have newer version fitted)
can't think of what else is different.
-
old crappy whiteworm rear vw badge got one of them as well, howmuch and hard is it to replace with the new one
-
Had mine replaced under warrenty but did have the crappy whiteworm badge, and as above have rubbers around the rear windows rather than bonded.
(Want a brushed alu ashtray lid for mine.)
-
I had white worm on badge also until I had it replaced under warranty, along with divertor valve, spark plugs, door regulator , fan and door re allignment lol
Regarding that dual climate , in the newer models you can adjust both with one turn of knob but in mine I have to do each individually which takes me and extra half a second.!!!!

Not if you hold the 'auto' buttons down for 3 seconds and the you can control both from the drivers side dial, (until someone on the passenger side overides it with the other dial. :happy2:)

cheers - I will try that
will that stay like that next day when I get in car or will I need to press again?
I only realised last week that when its not on auto its still on air con !!! Its when its on econ its off.
VW guy told me in dealers.

Beat me too it Jay :signLOL: mines a '54 and has blue glass, alu ashtray lid,10 speakers, aerial in the rear window and the common whiteworm rear badge too :fighting:
Dave

Plus older models have nitrous :signLOL:

Stays like it until the other dial is turned weather the car has been turned off or not.
-
mines is an 06 and i have blue tinted glass, the beesting aerial, no whiteworm on the boot badge, climate control with dual written on it, 10 speakers, black ashtray lid and an ejector seat as standard
-
I'm pretty sure you can hold either buttons on auto and make them the single control!
Other than the obvious already mentioned, older cars have additional lights as standard so footwell and rear passenger and extra 3rd bulb in each, the door handle material also changed as well as the trim material and the glove box handle. Also when they dropped the 10 speaker as standard they also dropped the cross over out and dasiy chained the tweeter off of the bass speaker.
MFSW also changed from the skip buttons and two telephone to the highline control buttons and signal telephone.

I think its the very early cars that have the rear window antenna. Mine is an 05 and has a roof mounted antenna , and the black plastic ashtray lid , but still has the rubber round the rear side windows , the Blue glass and 10 speaker sounds. My car was received by VW at Grimsby docks on 1st July 2005 and registered in Edinburgh on the 12th. I have a whitewormy rear badge that needs changed for next year , when I am going to get my 17" Monzas refurbed and new wheel centres fitted as they are all wormed up too!

That stumped me too...I read the manual as I always do but it doesnt help when all the books for my 2005 car seem to be from a 2007 model and show the DUAL button which my car doesnt have , I take it one of the previous owners kept all the books (apart from the service book which was published in 2005 and is the correct one for my car) How difficult would it be to find a full manual pack in a GTI wallet in good nick that is for an 05 car??

Are there any differences in terms of engine type, performance, spec etc or are they all the same?

I think there are 2 different engine codes , but as to the differences between them (or indeed what they are , as I have forgotten!) I will have to defer to someone else.
-
AXX and BWA are the engine codes (former and latter). If you do a search on here there's a good 5 page or so thread talking about the differences / possible differences and also if you wack AXX vs BWA into google you can read over threads from other sites discussing the odds

Mine is also on the cross over between old and new, 05 reg with blue tint glass (it had the old badge been replace) whip aerial but the newer black steering wheel and all the extra light bits and pieces! My mate has an 05 reg with all the old features, so 05 reg is the cross over between MY05 and MY06 cars which will have occurred half way through the reg.
-
mine is a 55 plate, 06 model i was told anyway, ive got blue tint, 10 speaker, rubber around back windows, fixed aerial on top, did have old whiteworm badge, older air con buttons.
-
2006 cars also came with different wiper arms. I think I read on here that earlier cars also came with S3 lower arms?
