Hi guys,
I installed an RNS 510 ver C LED into my MKVI GTD last week.
2 issues, I'm wondering if it's normal.
1. If I leave a DVD in the unit and lock up the car, when I come back to the car hours later (e.g. next morning!) I can hear the DVD spinning/humming away in the disc drive before I've even switched the unit on or turned the ignition key. Not a biggie, but I'd be concerned it would drain the battery if it's not normal? DVD plays fine (and I think it remembers where it left off). If I eject the DVD I obviously don't hear any noise before startup!
2. The unit takes sometimes 15-20 seconds to get going... I get "system starting"... I believe this is normal, right? Also, for the first 3-4 seconds on a cold startup, the audio (media, radio, SD card, whatever was playing last) is slightly muffled or squiggly (a bit like bad radio reception), but it is perfect after that. Normal?
Cheers
Joe.

the unit is powering up when you unlock the car ,thats why you hear the dvd :)

Thanks Dario, that's what I kinda suspected... still a little strange though that the DVD/CD can be heard spinning/humming away before I even sit into the car.
And the start-up delay and slightly muffled audio for first few seconds? I assume that's also normal. I believe these RNS's are effectively like a computer and just like a Dell windows machine, they take a bit of time to get going!

The startup time is normal.
I haven't experienced any audio issues like you describe in any of the three cars i have owned with RNS510's in.

Mine does a slightly blipped audio for a split second, but evens out after that
Try a firmware update

Thanks guys...
It already has a relatively recent firmware installed I think - version 2760? I was out in the car just now at lunchtime and SD-card playback started up cleanly (i.e. no squiggly noise/interference at the start). I have noticed it do it though with the radio and with the MDI (iPhone). Either way, it's not a big deal, I was just concerned that it's a sign of trouble ahead or something. I'll leave it be for now as it seems to be working perfectly in every other way.
I actually bought the unit off Nick (think he posts on here too?).
cheers
Joe.

Yeah Nick joined here last month too. Think he posted a new member thread and replied to a few questions, got my RNS510 C from him too :drinking: scroll down a page or so and you'll find a thread with him in or just pm him :happy2:

It will probably be easier to get hold of Nick over on R32OC.
I also got my RNS510 C from him. A top guy :happy2:
