Title: DV Fault or my imagination?
Post by: TonyZed on July 07, 2011, 01:30:14 pm
When I am driving with my windows open I can clearly hear my DV when I shut off from hard acceleration. It is exactly as you would expect, a quick whoosh which it has always done.

However, I've just recently noticed that I can still hear it if I don't completely shut off. I can control this quite easily and almost play tunes on it!! :jumpmove:

I presume that my DV is shot, the car is an '05 reg GTI with 55K miles on the clock.

Has/does anyone else experience this? I don't want to order a new DV that I don't need.

Sounds like you might have a tear in the diaphragm

Always good to upgrade to a rev d, especially if you are on 05

I thought it was normal to hear the DV :S I have an 05 plate and can be driving normally change gear at 2.5-3.5k and can here a tshhhhhhhhh? Guessing I best invest in a revision D valve then?

I like the sound of it though will miss it lol, will I be loosing a lot of power if this is the case?

You should generally only hear the DV whoosh when you have spooled the turbo up but havent used the boost when you shift gear or hit the throttle and release quickly

Hmmmmm not sure now then! I might just punt for a Rev D anyway better to be safe then sorry I guess! It;s quite a loud dump tbh! if I don't have windows down I can hear it still.

I changed mine to a Rev "D"on my "05" reg when I was getting loud dump valve type noises and not had any issues since with it  :happy2:

If anything the car picks up better & more smoothly after I changed it :happy2:

I changed mine a few weeks back. It was wooshing a lot when I booted it. You are probably running at about 170 bhp now also instead of 200. Get it changed and see the difference. Mine is 05 GTI

@OP, sounds exactly the same as what mine was doing, so I got a rev 'D' fitted which was a good idea as it turns out....... :scared:

This has made me think too...

How big a job is it to remove and check? Is it just a case of jacking and removing wheel, 3 bolts and out? How can you tell if its a rev D etc? And are you just looking for damage to the diaphragm?

Would hate to think some of the horses were making a bolt! :signLOL:

Easy as that

Rev D will say it on the the part number - itll end with a D, plus it has a completely different design to the diaphragm versions
