Now my car has finaly been sorted I am thinking about what mod I want next ( had stage 1 which I love) :driver:
There are 4 things I need, well not need but want to get done eventually. Only thing is I am not sure which one to do first so I need advice.
In no particular order:
Steering wheel paddles. ( I have DSG but this would make it a little more fun)
Cruise control ( I drive to and from bournemouth to Essex each weekend , 340 miles round trip so would come in handy)
Wheel refurbing ( painting innners Monzas black , love the look of this )
or ARB/WALK whatever you call it. ( I find the car understeers and doesnt really go round corners as good as I would like it. I dont want to change the shocks etc though so was thinking ARB or WALK , or are they same thing? )
cheers all

ARB - Anti Roll Bar
WALK - Whiteline Anti Lift Kit
I've always thought CC was a nice simple and relatively cheap mod. As long as you have the correct steering controller but that will tie in with you also wanting paddles.

So can I have CC and paddles fitted at same time? Do you know cost roughly?
cheers

The CC isn't too expensive, depending on if you do it yourself or pay someone to do it and of course if you need the steering controller.
The cost of the paddles really depends on how cheaply you can get a steering wheel.

steering wheel? Cant I use my one, I really like it, the flat bit at bottom especially.
-
They don't normally have a cutout on the back for paddles.
-
CC+paddles but as above - you need a SW that has the slots for the paddles. As long as you're not after multifunction, you can easily get a dsg steering wheel - loads on ebay when I last looked.
A GTI wheel will have the flat-bottomed bit. Non-GTI wheels are round.

Asked my dealer about the paddles and they said they cannot fit and if I do it will invalidate my warranty !!! So thats out.
I have enquired about CC and its 100 quid plus VAT so will get that done.
I want my wheels done also, but I want it done where I can park the car and pick it up later. I dont want to leave it there for days or try to get a set of wheels to borrow so not sure what I can do about that yet, unless anyone knows a place you can drive in and wait ?
-
depending on where you are a1 wheels will either let you leave the car there or give you a set of wheels to go home on, they are in walsal n of birmingham and do an amazing job

What reg is your car and what car is it? also do you have buttons on your steering wheel at the moment or is it a blank standard wheel, I think once you answer these we can give you more advice.

I think that was foregone conclusion, standard dealer answer I'm afraid. I would only invalidate any warranty on any part that was proven to have been damaged or caused to fail but the replacement parts.

An anti roll bar kit or just a rear one will help a great deal towards the handling as will the WALK kit :happy2:
Have a look at our site we have quite a few options for the GTI.

darren, i have a 55 plate, 06 model, no steering wheel buttons, i have a stalk but no wire, will i need the wire and will it just need coding once its been installed?
-
I have an 06 gti and retrofitted CC. Stalk cost me £30 and eddie-nl had already setup the coding. Being fitted this week by Eddie so I will let you know. £100 +VAT is way over the odds!!!
-
If you retrofit the Standard GTI wheel with Paddles and MFSW, I can't see how they would have an issue with warranty?
They may not have done the job. But in all honesty, they would not even know these had been added in. Unless they decode the VIN.
Or at least that is how I'm playing it over in New Zealand with mine.

How can you say £100 + VAT is over the odds?? He's been quoted by VW for a new part to be fitted in their workshops. You've got a stalk at less than cost price so probably used and are having it fitted as a favour.

VW want 230 quid. 100 plus VAT is an Indy

Wow, thats worse, vRSTU I can easily say that as you can pick up quality used stalks for a snap and fitting coding isnt expensive. eddie-nl isnt doing it as a favour I am paying him as he runs a business as a side line!!
Jamma, I would look around for someone local to code and give you the correct part number if your controller can handle it.

I was offered the stalk for 50 quid and I know someone with a VAG but they said as my car was a 2005 it will be tricky to do so have no one to help. May just leave it , its seems like a lot of hassle to me.
-
£50 is just under retail for a new part, so not worth buying used IMHO.
The only slight issue with 2005 cars is the wire to the bulkhead from the steering controller, which if you think you'll need you should buy the retrofit kit rather than just a stalk. I still think £100 +VAT is a good price.

I would stronger suggest at taking the advice giving by vRStu. He knows what he is on about.
As for the used stalk, I would no go down that road. the 2005-2207 stalks had many issues and failing all the time too. Requiring replacement. (from VW in New Zealand)
so if you installed a used part and it fails only a few weeks, you will have to pull everything apart just to install everything again. Way to much effort for saving £60-ish.
I forgot to say, I only run APR rear sway bar. the car is far nicer to drive and handles soooo much better.
