Title: Fan belt change?
Post by: WILLZIE on July 08, 2011, 01:22:37 pm
Wanting to replace my fan belt soon as it's nearly at the 50'000 mark. But opposed to the cambelt needing changing at something like 60'000, could someone please tell me when the fan belt needs replacing, couldn't really get a proper answer from the manual.

Don't really know myself. Just changed mine when I put on the AP lightweight pulley at 70,000 miles.
You could do it when you replace the timing belt at 80,000 miles. Do the tension pulley at the same time though as it is usually the cause of noise when that happens.

I thought the aux belt was a 40,000 mile service item?

Mine wasn't changed then(40,000 miles). It was checked then, but not changed.

Manual says 80k miles, however the general consensus is 40k miles or 4 years, the VW dealership i just bought my GTI from acknowledged this and replaced it as part of the condition of sale on my 28k mile 56 plate - Feb 07 registered so just over the 4 years.
