Title: Clutch's and Flywheels - Dual Mass vs. Single
Post by: SteveP on July 08, 2011, 07:08:19 pm
Might be looking at a new clutch for the money pit so will need to replace the flywheel too, I know some single mass flywheels can be noisy but that isn't really an issue for me, what are the real benefits or downsides of running a sinlge vs. dual mass flywheel?

Also can you think of any other clutch kits to consider?

Sachs
Helix
Clutchmasters
South Bend

If noise is not an issue then S.bend smf is the boy to have what an awesome bit of kit belongs centre piece in the living room and not getting dirty and abused. Quality bit of kit would not fit anything else. Stevie.

Is that with the Helix clutch?  How much is the complete kit?  :drinking:

There's also Spec, though i have no xperience with them
As we talked about at Inters the Sachs uprated SMF solution doesn't seem to be the best out there for our cars, so i could be tempted by the fx400 that you mentioned.
SMF vesus DMF. With the torque our cars produce and how we use the cars i don't think that a DMF will last long, as it's built with comfort in mind and not hard use and with the price for one i think it will be very expensive running them on cars modded to our levels. I don't know of any upgraded DMF solutions so only OEM available.

"Recommended uses are drag racing, drifting and limited street. "

Have you noticed your left left is 2" bigger than your right leg?

Endurance looks like the sachs kit I currently have but with SMF, which has been more than upto the job.

Sachs uprated with smf does not cope with high revs and quick shifts, ask Fuscobal and me

I have just had Sachs uprated and left the oem DMF in as Steve at Statllers said he has never yet seen a damaged DMF. I think you would have to be driving the car with the clutch slipping for some time before you damaged the DMF.

There seems to be different viewpoints from different respected tuners on this issue so it is hard to make an informed choice.

Zboyd has a Helix clutch and smf on his car and had nothing but praise for it, pedal wasnt too heavy either.

I would certainly trust his opinion on these things. You've probably gone and bought one by now though :fighting2:

I have heard mixed reviews on the Helix and Spec clutches, still waiting on a couple of prices to come back but 95% sure I will be ordering a South Bend kit with SMF  :happy2:
