Im Hoping so pal 2 reasons, wanna see your big mod which I think I know what it is as I'm really toying with the idea. Then second I am hoping to get my seats and harnesses fitted which should hopefully be turning up tommorow, if not then I am screwed and will have to wait til next week. Well, heres more of an update and i must say i wasnt to sure at first compared with my reiger bumper. However now its all fitted and wired in i am very happy with the overall result. My indicators are now in the headlight so an exact match to the R now with genuine leds which look a lot better than these copys floating about, and more reliable.

Well sort of an update if you like, I have my seats and harnesses coming tommorow so will be down to kevs at kpm on saturday to get them fitted. Bumper came off again mid week to get the holes from number plate plastic filled and smoothed, pick it up tommorow so will get pics up. Also sent brakes off to dave for one of his quality refurbs should have them back next week so again will get picks up before Bedford. Steve are you going on the Saturday or the Monday?

Well I'd just like to say first of all another big thanks to kev at kpm for doing a brilliant job and getting my seats and harnesses all fitted in minimal time, good service once again! They look amazing and coming home was a joy kev feel so more in control and no sliding all over the show. As for the oem seats Jesus I never knew they weighed so much you can pick the new ones up with 1 finger the oem ones need a bloody tele handler! 2nd drive back kev and the seats are very comfy indeed I will post some pics up tommorow bit late and dark now. Thinking about the next stage of the project already!

love the picture of the screen shaun, how long did it take you to get that shot? so much detail of the inside of the car.
no seriously, glad your happy with them, they will make a huge difference out on the circuit.

I know bloody piece of sh*t didn't come out kev! If you noticed aswell I had to give it a quick wash get rid of all the roadkill you left on the front end of it! Just leavin your place a pigeon nearly flew into screen then just at the end of the road at the bollards a bloody rabbit ran in front so I had to slam on! Is that really where all your cars crash not on the circuit!

Cheers for comments guys. Good to meet you holty defo go for rocco pal not jetta, theres no cred with a jetta. Off to bedford tommorow to test all coilovers and newly refurbed brakes out. Just changed to revo today aswell so see how that fairs. As pies said today brakes have no chance after a quick 20 mins out he reckons he could cook a chicken on them!

Well after a great start to the morning having atom and Westfield owners coming up to me asking what mods I had done due to the rocco overtaking Them, as kev was a witness to one owner who came over I can't repeat his exact words but it went something like "fxxx me what have you got under there". The afternoon though didn't go so well second lap after lunch and doing 90 round a bend I lost all power immediately followed by massive clouds and I do mean massive clouds of White smoke out the back with a smell of oil, we have put this down to the turbo as the engine is still fine on tickover and just at revs it clouds up again. We will know more next week! Just got bloody brakes fitted back up aswell gutted!

such a nice car dude well done  :congrats:

so gutted i couldn't get one! if only my mum didn't have a 5 car pile up i'd probs have one.

P.S shouldn't harnesses be fitted to a pole? not floor? heard if there fitted to the floor they can and may cause back injury if you crashed while wearing them

Well just thought I'd keep you in the loop with a few updates. I don't want to give away what exactly is on the cards as we speak as I like to give surprises! Let's just say that as the turbo has gone and kev has it I have asked him to carry out a few more mods and let's just say I am looking forward to them. I was at first a bit hesitant but after a lot of thinking and the turbo going I have decided sack it go for it. And of course the car couldn't be in better hands with kev just as long as pies keeps away with his chicken nuggets!

Not to sure as yet why or how it failed, it has had a hard life if I'm honest but still thought it would be more than capable of more than 9000 miles. I think you will like the mods pal as I am defo looking forward to them.

Firstly, I love this car, -well I did untill it come into the workshop pukeing all over the nice clean floor,

secondly, open heart surgery begins tomorrow morning I am very keen to find out what is actually up with it.   Not that it actually matters, once the v8 is in and the roof is chopped nobody will care about your stinking k03.

Exactly kev have you decided what supercharger is going to be the best one to go for yet? Or would a twin scroll turbo unit be better. Is the tunnel gonna take much to do do you reckon!

Well i suppose its about time for a bit more of an update. The car is not as many of you have known it any more and this is due to a lot of changes on my part i have decided to go down this route once and for all and stop toying with the idea. I do know it looks a mess at the minute but from what i have seen and known of kpms work i know i am in safe hands despite the pringles box! (no doubt pies couldnt find any nuggets)! If you have no doubt seen this steve i am afraid i am out of trax this weekend which i am gutted about but the end result as im sure you will agree be worth it.

Well it should no doubt kick more than a "R"s ass chungster lad soon as I get it back it's off for the big turbo conversion I feel totally lost without it and am missing out on all these bloody track days. However judging by the weather we've had so far it would be sliding rather than tucking into the corners anyhow. I will keep you updated.

You can always sort the traction issue too..... Put a 4WD drive train in it!

You'd seriously kick ass then!

Bloody he'll the things you could do with unlimited money! I must say I have thought about 4wd a he'll of a lot but you also have to remember the adavantages of less weight and less to do with 2wd in the dry at least in the wet ok we all know it's a different story. But in the dry a correctly tuned 2wd with the correct settings on suspension and right tyres would beat a 4wd.

i think you'll REALLY regret not doing a 4WD conversion. It is impressive what you can do with FWD these days but there is no compromise especially if you're doing a big turbo build...
Title: Re: Candy White Rocco
Post by: geordie56 on September 04, 2011, 06:55:50 pm
It's also a he'll of a lot of time and money to carry out a 4wd conversion pat. I have been more than happy with all the mods I have carried out with the performance  and handling without going 4wd. If I really wanted it I would have bought the golf r but then you don't get the look of the rocco which is what I like.

Shorter driveshafts to fit into the quattro gearbox as you have changed your mind and going 4wd!

Do the rocco's not already have alloy front hubs?
Title: Re: Candy White Rocco
Post by: geordie56 on September 05, 2011, 10:00:31 pm
Nah not 4wd unfortunately! the rocco is the same as mkv in regards the hubs are steel the rear ones are different as they are alloy as opposed to the mkv steel ones.

Kevs working his magic on some carbon panels Steve to finish the look off, you know what he's like, likes to experiment and does a damn good job at it! He's managed to fit the speakers flush behind the door with enough clearance for the window glass to clear and give a flush finish  on the carbon.Have you seen it them Steve?

Yeah good too see you and catch up aswell steve hope that neil can get all sorted for combe aswell should be good if weather holds out! Heres some more updates for people who havent seen it, they include RS4 8 pots with pagid RS42 pads, alloy hubs whiteline bump steer kit, Ap fully floating 362mm discs, And main mod for the brrake setup was a new master cylinder which i cant thank DaveB enough for its took a good few weeks to organise and look into but we have got there and it is an amzing brake pedal due to the new master cylinder being able to push a lot more fluid through! The master cylinder and all developments of it shall be revealed by Dave no doubt once he is all ready as i dont want to rain on his parade. Thanks again dave and a big thanks also to kev and pies for todays efforts. Oh, Nearly forgot 2 new sets of wheels aswell one set with semi slicks and one with full slicks!

This car is mad, had a drive in it this morning......

Full marks to Shaun, I know some people might think he's as mad as a bag of squirrels for turning a rocco into a track car but after this morning I get it...I really get it.

The boys at KPM have done a 10/10 job on the car - its running about 300BHP at the mo but felt like much more than that.

So you'd think that the only thing missing is a roundel on the door and a number on it, but it looks like a sleeper with the tinted windows, you can't really even see the cage from outside.

Regading the master cylinder upgrade - if anybody is interested then get in touch, its gone really well on Shaun's car and very much proved the concept of what we were trying to achieve, its still fairly embryonic but maths is maths and its a wortwhile upgrade opening up pretty much any set of brakes to the Mk5 Platform without the dullling of performance or extended pedal travel of say the ECS stage V kit.

Shauns pedal as he will no doubt tell you agree is awesome and he's running 8 pots now

Cheers for the comments guys and yes I am more than happy with it I cannot stop looking at all the time and effort that's gone into making it the car it now is! I am keeping the wheels the colour they are for the time being, and maybe when they get damaged reconsider. As for being happier than a dog with 2 dicks I'm happier than a dog with 3 digs just need a few good days on the track now before the sea on finishes which is when my next mods will begin!

That looks bloomin' mega. Well done and enjoy the rest of the season.

Stupid question but what are the wheel specs, obviously TD...but 1.2? or maybe 1.3? Offset and Finish style etc?

I'm needing/wanting some of these after seeing these pics, look fab on a white car, as mine is CW too but Golf shaped.
Yoko 048 tyres look great and only add to the cool.

Post by: geordie56 on September 19, 2011, 09:50:18 pm
Cheers JP does that include a free once over  I will call at some point so you can check it out pal. The wheels are Vw racing ones which are supplied by TD and are same spec as the 1.3. They are 35 offset and 8.5 rim width, and have just been specially made this size as TD didnt have or didn't do this size, whichis the size I required for my tyres. They are finished in anthracite aswell.

That's cos he's done a bit of a mish mash on the bodykit now - it has a R front bumper but Rieger/Niche Conversion side skirts. The first bumper he had was lower to match the skirts but didn't have a towing eye hole so to get round that he got the much nicer R bumper instead

Hi guys thanks a lot for all the positive comments, I am running the v3's and do find them very good so far. However now the cage is in and the car is really rigid I will see how I get on with the nexttrack day. The vwr 1.3 are also spot on especially with the ao48's I have on at the minute had a bit of fun this week testing it all out. As for engine specs I am waiting until the last few track days are out the way then it's off to get some extra bits added

Well just had my first outing at Combe with the cage and tyres on the weekend and had a nice dry day aswell. Have got to say the difference is just amazing the whole car just has no flex and is flat throughout the corners, and as for the grip levels it was unreal how much grip I was getting! Well enough to overtake cars I wouldn't have though anyway but it's not all about power as you well know. It's all power to weight and how planted the car is. The diff really showed it's worthwhile with some of the tight bends, could just keep on the power and accelerate a lot earlier in corners. Bedford I think on the 5th and then in for the engine work.

Thanks for the comments guys and heres a couple of pics as to give you a clue what may be happening!  As you can see from the 2nd picture the exhaust turbine wheel has one again snapped clean off after a meer 500 miles since replacement! The 2nd time the turbo has gone in a total of 10k! sh*te TSI engine all i can say thats why they have stopped production of them im guessing to many floors when driven like they are meant to be driven. The reason behind it is a low profile sump, obviously not baffled as its to difficult to do on this sump due to the profile of it and its steel not aluminuim. This is what has caused oil surge on heavy track day cornering and the turbos spindle has just completeley seized up as a result and snapped on both occasions. The oil temps were also reaching between 135 and 142 Degrees C which means its totally broken down by then giving no decent lubrication to the turbo. Hope you like the updates that will follow.

^ But you've uprated your suspension, wheels and tyres, so isn't it just a case that the engine wasn't built for the increased cornering capability that your mods provide?
Title: Re: Candy White Rocco
Post by: Top Cat on January 05, 2012, 09:31:23 pm
You could get a accusump system fitted which should sort out or even a dry sump system.  :notworthy:

Title: Re: Candy White Rocco
Post by: geordie56 on January 06, 2012, 09:40:50 pm
I looked into the accu and also read a lot of reviews, they say it can overload the engine with oil due to the way the system works and therefore meaning it is swamped in oil which is just as bad as being dry. This is due to the way the valve just squirts the oil in via the accumulator. Thanks for the advice though pal but I think I should hopefully be sorted with my new plans.

Not yet, but in all fairness to vwr and their rocco, it doesn't get driven half as hard as mine does. It is and has been for a while now just an out and out track car so gets driven to its limits every time it's taken out.

Shaun

You ever considered flogging the rocco Xenons to fund some more mods, I think they'd fetch a good price on the rocco forums etc and whilst they're a nice option I think the cars moved on a bit.

Plus if you had a light shunt they'd be expensive to replace
Title: Re: Candy White Rocco
Post by: geordie56 on January 07, 2012, 02:55:45 pm
I've not to be honest dave, purely for the fact they do make the front end look a lot better than standard. Aswell as I have a contact with replacements if ever I need them cheap! As for the engine mat I'm not giving anything away just yet . Let's just say it should hopefully have a weight of 1050kg so should be very interesting! All the power will be kept under control with all the previous mods carried out which has been great.

Well as they and everyone else knew, they have a new ecu and wiring harness for it and are just experiencing a few more snags than expected getting everything working. All the relays are trying to do different things so they are just having do some pin swapping on the harness once they get the wiring diagram from the car it's come from and mine so they can get it sorted. He's just cracking on with that first before he starts fitting everything else up to it to get it running sweet first. Have you been up to much pal?

Well im hoping so, it will be nice light and nimble to saythe least as it was really good before. The only reason for the big transformation is due to the poor engine and having 2 turbos, so with around 90-100bhp more than it had i think it will be a weapon on track.

Corrected that for you  :happy2:

Need a bit of help, has anyone got or can get access to the full car loom wiring diagrams I.e. from the ecu out to the engine and car loom and all pin numbers etc....? Please let me know if you can help.

Go to vw elsawin.  It's all online, you just pay for how long you use it.  The 5 euros for an our does allow you to print too.

I do have a full vw golf mk5 fsi and tsi manual which will have all the info, but it will be hard to send over to you

Alex thanks, that's the site Steve has tried. It doesn't show the pins and what they correspond to coming out of the ecu though so he has been on the phone to them and they don't know either. Do the wiring diagrams you have show what the pins leaving the ecu for the car and engine loom coincide with? Thanks.

Yeah it shows the ecu pin numbers, colours, blocks they go to etc.

Google Bentley publishers.  You can download the manuals from their site.  Let me know exactly what you are after and I can make sure its on there before you buy it.

Not much of an update, but have decided we need to go with a full new car loom to carry out the new engine mod. heres a few pics as it stands.

I can see it's a TFSI Steve, but when you need a new wiring loom the obvious choice must be a Scirocco R. Why not max. the 2,0 TSI out with a K04 solution, apparently the make some very healthy figures

Post by: geordie56 on March 07, 2012, 05:34:13 pm
Hi Danish, you obviously havent read my full build as the tsi was maxed out with the k03 and blew 2 turbos , for a lot of reasons stated in the build they will keep doing it, oil starvation being the biggest culprit, and the engine basically being sh*te for track work! While it may be ok on the road, it just doesn't cut it on track and IMHO isn't good at all for this kind of abuse! Yes it will pull good figures but won't last, hope this clears it up.

To be honest, I am surprised to hear this about the TSI engine. My TFSI is clocking up the mileage and one thing I was considering was swapping for a TSI when it goes and doing the same job with the wiring looms...but in reverse of what is going on here.

Is the current thinking that sticking with a TFSI would be a better idea and keeping my K04?

Again I am surprised as all the talk when the TSI came out was how much more robust it was (but that may only be down to HPFP and chain driven cam) and Jim @ JKM was telling me recently how well he was getting on with his TSI Octavia with APR K04 and Revo map and he knows his way around a track or two.

Well sort of a bit of an update, I hopefully get the car back this week as looking to go to donning ton with Neilm. Just one issue if anyone has any idea about this, bit of a unique one tbh now it has a complete ed30 loom we are struggling to get the windows to auto drop on the rocco as the ed30 loom doesn't allow for this. Has anyone any ideas to try obviously I don't think anyone at all has come across this. Please let me know any ideas to try. They work for 3 attempts then shut down and have to reset with vag com for them to operate again. Cheers for any help.

Well as a few of you know, i have had a lot of bad luck lately and have been so unhappy to say the least about the scenario. So after a lot of hunting and seeing what i wanted to go for ive come up with this. Watch this space for whats coming up some of you may be able to guess this already giving what the last car had done to it.

No news yet, pretty much think its going to be scrap but will have to see. The Legs were both wrapped around the engine, no damage whatsoever to the engine. But both the top mounts were in half and once the snapped subfarrme was taken off the engine still stayed there with no movement. There would be a full side and a roof needed, and a door on other side. Will know more when i get back next week.

Love the colour, but the white one was pretty special looking. Oil cooler kit looks impressive? Do the tsi engine have a cartridge filter as standard? And this setup does away with it? If so would it fit the Tfsi?

You put cage in this one too?

Yes the white one was my special one don't rub it in! Once I'm finished with this I hope I can love it as much! The oil cooler kit is for the tfsi and comes complete with every fitting required and replaces the cartridge filter. It will also be having the cage mods carried out.

Well bit more of an update, nothing to exciting but i do really like it and it sounds good aswell. So much more free flowing and just sounds right, and a better throttle response.

Cheers John. Im not exactly sure what im planning on yet to be fair most things will be the same as previous. I stripped it down this morning all was going well then the snags started!! The Fittings they have supplied for the oil cooler kit, some of the thread sizes are wrong, then the oil breather pipe doesnt fit the fitting they have supplied either so not impressed. Mainly because now i will have to wait for them to be shipped over from the us now, unless anyone knows anywhere that would have these fittings i have enclosed pics. Also the clip at the top of the oil filter housing hasnt been supplied, i was wondering if i go into vw parts and show them it if they have one as its only a housing off of a mk4 thats been modified. Does anyone know anywhere that stocks  oil cooler fittings local to manchester? The intercooler side of things is a breeze!

They prob still have a stupid call out charge!

I use Think Automotive for all of my Mocal fittings and lines etc.  They are Mocal.  No where near Manchester, but they offer a great delivery service if you don't get anywhere with Pirtek amd their crazy prices.

Your local tps should have the clip in stock.  If you need a reg of a car that would have one fitted then use GK02 ZVW.

I don't even know the sizes Alex or I could order online, I will have to take it in and make sure the ones they give me fit. Same for the crankcase breather hose I could get a rough diameter. The problem is I'm in bloody London all week next week . If I was at home there's a pirtek at traff park I could try.

HI neal im looking and planning on getting on track beginning of next month. You up for some track action?
As regards oil cooler kit it is very worthwhile when you have a full track prepped car with slicks imo. it is different with a road car and a few mods I think as they are not getting anywhere near as much stick. I was seeing temps of 140.

awesome build  :happy2: the DD42 catch can looks impressive! what's the advantage/benefit of it over the forge one?

Lee I'm not sure yet about splitter will let you know. :happy2: the benefits over this catch can is the pipes used are a larger bore meaning better flow and breathing along with a large competition can that can hold a larger volume and has its own dipstick sois easily checked.

Correct Danish, the wheels are poking out. However once I have had my full 3way ast suspension fitted with top mounts to pull them back in the arches it will all be sorted! Don't forget I had s3 hubs on my last rocco and these are only 10mm less than the TT hubs, therefore with adjustable top mounts, this will be cured. :happy2:

Hi mike, yes the kit comes with adjustable top mounts included. I'm getting them from KPM. You should get quite a bit of adjustment to cure your issues with clearance mike just depend how much you want to sacrifice even wear on the road with your tyres.

Well, sort of an update however I have no pics as of yet! The ASTs are fitted which has brought the front wheels in very nicely, the inner arches have been removed so there's no rubbing issues, ARBs have been fitted, engine mounts fitted, cage is on order and in next week then straight to paint. So all being well I should be at inters, bit of a push but fingers crossed! It is all going to be a bit of a rush but kevs doing his best. :happy2:

Are there many downsides to not running arch liners?

There is only one downside to running without liners and that's just dirt, and possibly the odd chip. However if you keep on top of cleaning I can't see it being an issue.  :happy2:

As you know John, noise isn't an issue for me having a fully stripped car anyways!  and I have plenty of rubber flying off especially when going from one track day to another with cold tyres and lots of pick up on them to start with!

I had a little gander at Inters. And gotta say it didn't look that good.

Because it looked way, way better than good, off the frikkin' awesome scale, so I'm very envious.
Enjoy it after the long journey you've had the last few weeks.

Can I ask what happened, if you don't mind me asking of course..

I didn't know this is what happened to 'White' I'd just thought you got fed up trying the engine swap/wiring harness hassles. Clearly I was wrong.

'Blue' looks mega and is a fine replacement.

Edit that just noticed your last post good on you for getting it back together

It was on a test drive after all the engine conversion was carried out and lost control, went over a central reservation, hit a wall and landed on my roof. Dont remember a lot to be honest as i blacked out. if the cage wasnt fitted i dont think id be telling the story today so i am very grateful for that! Just got to move on and put it in the past now, think i may be slightly more cautious when on track on the 13th after all this especially as its my 1st outing since al this happened. I think a lot of it was due to the fact i had racing semi slicks on and they were full of pick up from last track day and stone cold, therefore no grip on the back end and the car just stepped out on me. Its a hard lesson learnt and will try to get back into the swing of things.

The chassis wasnt bent at all mat, just needed a new drivers side leg and this was all due to the fact it had a cage fitted or there would have been nothing left to repair in all honesty.Nothing chassis wise moved due to the strength the cage had given it.

Probably a good advert for us all to have full cages and 'full on' seats and harnesses, but guess real world is not like that.

couple of questions Shaun, not before congratulating you again on an epic build..  :notworthy:

Where did you get the Buckets?  Anywhere you'd recommend (cheapest!) as I only ever end up looking in tweaks.  Did you save a noticeable amount of weight?

What is the thought / benefit of doing the charcoal canister delete?  Does it cause issues?

APR (for the time being)... What's up your sleeve?

Thanks mike comments much appreciated its been a long long journey!

The Buckets were unfortunately from Tweaks as i couldnt get them anywhere with them being carbon they were special order mate. As for the weight savings, it was immense to be fair the standard ones being electirc with the heating and subframes weigh around the 45kg figure per seat which to put in perspective one seat is the weight of my full cage! And the New ones i think off the top of my head weigh 6kg and you can pick them up with a couple of fingers.

The charcoal canister delete causes no issues at all and was merely for fitting my catch can in its place.

As for the APR comment i am intending on staying with them just watch this space.

I hear the white demo rocco is going to be getting a 500bhp GT30 conversion soon. You going down that kinda road?

Or you gonna be the APR Loba L04XX guinea pig??

I can't believe the turn around on the old car, If I hadn't seen the aftermath pics before it was rebuilt I wouldn't have believed it was that bad, top work by KPM and anyone else involved in putting her back to her former glory  :happy2:

And your blue one is

Cheers nodz and if you could have actually seen it in the flesh you wouldn't think it was coming back at all, let alone winning its first race out! As you say it is a top turnaround by KPM and looks really good aswell! Mine is down there just having a few tweaks done to it.

Stunning car you´ve built :notworthy: I have a couple of questions for you if it's okay;)

Where did you route the line to the charcoal canister?

And do you have a guess on how long the A048's would last on a daily driver? I've got the AD08's, and i would like some more grip, so i'm either getting the A048 or the R888..

Post by: geordie56 on August 31, 2012, 07:06:03 pm
Hi, and thanks for the comments. The canister has just been disconnected and blanked off as not needed. As regards the AO48's if you plan on using them on the road as a daily driver then your insurance will be void, if you look at the insurance board there is a section on this. Performance wise though they are excellent, on par if not better than R888's and the wear rate is also better aswell. I wouldn't recommend them in the wet however. Hope this helps. :happy2:

Well its been a while but had a lot on and a few bits to get tweaked with the car such as issues with deleting the XDS etc... along with other minor things. Fitted the meth kit with a custom tank courtesy of KPM lot more secure than  a plastic tank with a horrible plastic bung slammed in the bottom, Especially for what im using the car for. Also had an APR pump fitted rather than internals that i had, new exhaust tips and a tweaked map thanks to Keith.

Fully disabled and running a lot better, feels like its pulling a hell of a lot better aswell and that was in the wet can't wait to see what it's like in the dry! At donnington on Tuesday the looking at oulton park for beginning of Nov hopefully. How's your new motor? :happy2:

Well its update time, sort of anyways! After the last trackday at donnington with NeilM and Cupra, I found myself having to upgrade a step or 2 on the brake front as my pads and discs have now had it! So out with the old and in with the new. Dave as usual helped me in a big way doing me an excellent discount on some otherwise really expensive Project Mu endurance pads. I will get them fitted in time for my next trackday and let you know my thoughts on these, but I have however heard nothing but good things. :happy2: Enjoy.

Going to be seeing a lot more of Project Mu  - in fairness theyve been a little awkward to deal with with the time zone and language barrier being the main issues.

Anyway we've just had some good news in the fact that an Australian company have pretty much got a global distribution deal so things are making sense and we're avoiding double import/export duty.... so we've got some great plans to get the H16 and H19 compounds into stock which would make great fast road pads.

Going to be ringing you next time out for an update!!!

How many laps did you have on that previous setup Shaun? I think you got your moneys worth out of those blues!!!!!
