Title: Main Dealer Service price
Post by: Geoffcarragh on July 13, 2011, 12:49:13 pm
I just booked the car in for a minor service. On the VW website they quote £129. When I rang my local dealer in Barrersea they wanted £199, they said id have to go to VW Morden to get it for £129. I'm happy to drive an extra 3miles to save 70quid.

Out of interest, do you all get the engine flush for £35. I always get it, but fell im being had???? What do you think?

£199 for a service  :surprised:
I pay £120 at a VW approved garage, Never been to a main VW dealer since they messed me about the first time 7 years ago.

Never had engine ' flushed ' during an oil change, just another add on sale from the dealer as far as I'm concerned.

There will be just as many people who will now post to say how essential it is I suspect

At the end of the day its what you feel comfortable with....

That's a little naive of them -

I did, and I think it's most of them.  Clearly if they don't want the business then they won't participate.

It's mostly franchise dealers don't offer the brands offers, there loss for not doing it.....

This is what they said to me on the phone.  Asked them to price match and they did.

I think you'll find nearly all dealers are franchised - That's how they operate.

Maybe I'm a grumpy old cynic, but if a dealer can't be bothered to price match, or indeed make any effort for your custom, I'd be inclined to tell them to poke it up their hoops & go down the road. It doesn't inspire me as to the attitude in the workshop. Perhaps they can't be bothered in there too? maybe not but these days can any dealer afford to be so complacent with a potential customer?

My local dealer is 2 miles away. I drive 20 miles to a dealer that puts in the effort & is efficient.
