Title: Painted/vinyl exhaust cutout
Post by: Aparoon on March 21, 2009, 10:40:21 am
Just wondering if anybody has a picture of a tornado red edition 30 that has had the lower section of the rear bumper around the exhaust painted black or vinyl wrapped in black?

I thought about having this done before i even picked the car up but havent had the guts to do it so far, however after seeing jonnyc's car with the same done i really want to do it but would like to see what it will look like first.

Any help appreciated, i dont know how to upload pictures to be photoshopped  :ashamed:   :embarrassed:

Chris

I have seen it on a few ed30 now over the last year or so and some it looks good but on anothers not so good but I think it looks better on cars that have had a little drop as it fills the back end out a little

Cheers for the replies, my mate has a spray shop so i might just get it painted, i suppose i can always get it resprayed in the original colour if i get fed up with it or come to sell it.

Do you think mat black or gloss?

Matte Black or Satin, not gloss.

IMO you should get it wrapped, it will look good, plus will preserve your original paint.

Do you know any good companies that can wrap it and a rough price i would be looking at?

Where are you from?

Also have a look at JonnyC's thread as one of his most recent mods was getting the exhaust area wrapped.

Not gloss, you sure?  I love the look of this car. :embarrassed:

Sorry I can't put just the picture on.

I think it matches the 'B' pillars and the grill just right. It is the way I will go when I pull my finger out.

Its taken me ages to get mine done, I had planned to get it done aaaaaaaaaaages ago but now its finally on the car I have to say I think its one of the best mods for the exterior of the ED30, if not THE best..

Doesnt matter what colour it is, even if it was black, a Matte black lower would contrast nice..

I agree, even when i was looking at getting a standard gti i intended to get the rear bumper colour coded but leave the section around the exhaust black because it looks great, when i saw yours the other day it made me really want mine doing. Im taking it to be done tomorrow  :happy2:

What price would you expect to pay??

Or buy the vinyl and do it yourself.. Cost me nothing  :happy2:

But yeah, taking it to a place to get it done, around £50 and you should be fine!

Should be to tricky and there are plenty of guides on Youtube  :happy2:

Any vinyl company will be able to supply, just google 'vinyl company' and the area you live in. Worked for me  :happy2:

Reckon it would be best to have someone who has applied vinyl before doing it chief, could get messy otherwise lol

No problem mate, he had a go but said that it was too much of an awkward shape and to do it properly he would have to take the pumper off and get it indoors, thanks for trying though  :happy2:

I nearly ended up having my roof done but he said that was a 3 man job lol

Not being funny but I did it myself and im hardly a professional at it..

Doing the roof would take 2 guys literally to place the vinyl on the roof, if dry, if you did it wet you could do it on your own no probs.. Sounds like the place you tried weren't much cop!

Old topic I started when I first got the car, 1yr ago  :surprised:

Never had this done for one reason or another but toying with the idea again now...

HOWEVER, thinking something a bit differen, like a silver/grey colour rather than black? Could anybody give it a whirl using one of the original pixs please... Thanks :happy2:
