Title: Bonnet Warning Light problem
Post by: Benn83 on July 14, 2011, 11:54:31 pm
Hi Guys

The bonnet warning light on my car keeps going off when driving along and when it does the washers and wipers stop working. Checked the bonnet and it is closed properly and is secure. Had a search on the forum but could not find anything relevant.

Does anyone one know what could cause this? Also as the bonnet is secure so is there any way to disable it for the time being until I can get someone to look at it.

Thanks in advance

Ben

Had this happen to me a while ago and it's a simple fix... Pretty sure it'll be your bonnet sensor has broken which is located just underneath the bonnet latch.
When it goes you'll find your alarm going off every 5 or 10 minutes and you lose your wipers at low speeds as it thinks the bonnet is open and so disables them to prevent damage  :happy2:

Until you manage to get it booked in to be fixed you can unplug the sensor under the bonnet.... if you trace a black wire from the latch to the left next to the headlight you'll see a black plug with a wire running off into the car, unplug this and you should get your wipers back and the alarm should set properly.

I didnt have a bonnet warning light come up on mine so guessing you've got a newer car than me or maybe highline dash?

hope this helps

Dave

Yeah it does have the highline dash. Was quite annoying having an hours drive with a warning noise going off every minute. As was my neighbour knocking at my door at 3 in the morning because my alarm was going off constantly.

Will have a go at disconnecting that sensor tonight.

Cheers guys  :happy2:

Quick question guys. I have found the wire but am a bit unsure on how to disconnect it?

I assume that am missing something quite easy!

Follow it round towards the headlight and there is a connecter clip  :happy2:
