Title: upgrading my soundsystem
Post by: badly_dubbed on July 18, 2011, 11:33:03 pm
hi folks,

will be buying these these 3way component speakers for my front doors in my R32 to pair to my RNS510 at the end of the month,

http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/7967.html

now, what i also want is Hertz speakers to match the rear, and found these:

Hertz 2 ways...

http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/7968.html

does the R32 run 16.5cm in the rear? or is it a smaller speaker?

many thanks folks

(just used this as a link as i know both can be found cheaper on ebay ;) )

its cool, i found a thread from way back in 2008 where chorley audio were discussing the same thing with some crazy guy!

3 way 16.5 fronts (16.5 + 10cm mid + tweeter)

2 way 16.5 rears (16.5 + tweeter)

happy days :D

I'm running the HSK163.4's. Awesome speakers.

The factory VW radio's, no matter RCD310/510 or RNS510 do not produce enough power to make them really sing. Match them to a 4channel amp that fits under on of the front two seats. ARC Audio KS300.4 or similar. I think the new V power amps from Alpine may fit too. This will really make them sing.

In Addition, since the door cards are coming off for the speakers. Remember to install sound deading in the doors and around the speakers, don't forget the door cards too. lol

This will not only improve the sound, but will have less road noise in the car and make the speakers sound even better.

Oh dear.

If you haven't added any more voltage or increased the amount of current drawn how will the power increase?

What you can do is buy more sensitive speakers. This means the actual cone moves more for a given input but you can't invent power. :scared:

Cheers every one will look into tht 4 channel amp for the components

Maybe a daft question but as the front are 3 way won't i require a 6 channel?

The 3-ways will have a crossover to split the frequencies. They only require a single input.

Phew... i thought i was going mad!  :signLOL:

Do the Hertz fit in without hacking bits off etc? I presume you get both left and right when you buy those?

Yes I agree it will 'sound' better but you intimated that because the speakers were "higher watted" that they would give more power.

Sadly not.  :popcornsoda:

so a 4channel amp will do my front and rear components?

I have the HSK163 setup in the front. The RNS510 limits some output to "protect" the stock speakers as they're so crap. Swapping them has made a vast difference but this is mainly in clarity and allowing me to increase the volume/bass without distortion as used to happen with the stock setup.

Next step is definitely an amplifier.

This thread has been good for me also, I am now going to buy a set of the 3 way component speakers in the original post and try to build myself one of the fitted sub boxes for the boot, both running off a 4 way amp (bridged for the sub in the boot).

Anyone got a link to a guide for removing the door cards at all?
