Title: thinking of selling the fabia vRS
Post by: Janner_Sy on July 20, 2011, 07:52:39 pm
Thinking of seling the fabia vRS.  bit of a random buy for me tbh, was looking at all sorts of different cars most of which easily tuned to 300hp+ and completely randomly bougjt the fabia, urged on by the miss us.

Tbh its a great little car, nippy as you like, awesome on fuel but there's something that just makes me keep looking elsewhere.  Never did this with the octavia until id had it a few years.  There's also that thought in the back of the mind about the engine going pop, as all I seem to see are engine failure thread on SCN.

So im looking at cars that could replace it. Must handle well, have a strong reliable engine for tuning purposes, and a good tuning market.

What do you reckon? Doesn't have to be VAG would consider BMW, ford, VAG and pretty much anything else but a vxr

Would you consider another Octy?

Only had the Fabia 2mins!  Least you got a great deal so you're not going to be losing out.

I know mate. Don't get me wrong its a great ar, but theres something not clicking.  It made sense to go for it at the time as i was meant to be away with work for a while in sept, but changes in work plans mean I can go abit more nuts

If i did it would have to be a tsi and not the tfsi so prob over budget.  Don't think id lose to much on the fabia, got it really cheap anyway, plus got the map and stuff free as well

you are correct.  wanted a RWD for ages, but im a complete RWD noob, and wary of stacking it so more often than not talk myself out of it.  Im really confident in really throwing FWD cars around tracks all day long, but would have to mega change my driving style big style for a BMW, although id imagine its dynamically years ahead of all my previous cars

get a normal car, pay a kart team to hire their mechanics and rotax kart for race meets at 250 pounds a pop. Learn how to drive properly in it, overtake properly, and also find out that once your at the point of which you are a better driver than 99% of the population, you are still 2 secs a lap behind the fastest drivers of the meet.

Or a megane sport?

130i, very underrated car but let down by sloppy dynamics.... however.

All E90 M3 running gear, with the exception of the diff fits on the 1-series... and it won't be long before someone's worked out the part number for the prop converter off the 1M to do so.

Wishbones/ARBs/bushes all-in circa £600-£700 brand new.
Full set of 6-pot/2-pot front/rear Brembos off a 135i £500-£600 used

= highly amusing and capable car, and with that noise.

cancel all the previous posts.  Thought id drop the bomb shell on the long haired general, and basically she hit the roof    I sort of see her point as i bought the car without even telling her i was going to.  I merely told her i liked the car, and when she agreed it was nice, i took it upon myself to interpret it as 'of course you can have it'

So guess ill just have to make the Fabia flick my switch a bit more

Ive driven a 130I si, the new shape  BMs are brilliant cars everyway but dynamically they need too much modifications to make them any good, BM dont even fit LSDs to them anymore, IMO rear wheel drive without anm LSD is feckin pointless it makes it hard to get the rear end out and there is no grip what so ever If you want a BM buy an E46 M3 ive had one of those before and it was great.

Ill say this for the 130 though its a feckin brill engine, if you want handeling to match you are looking at 5k, the set up is sh*t no LSD, and to add to the rear wheel grip because BM have been cheepos and not fitted an LSD they have firmed up the springs and gave it a useless 12mm rear ARB  which makes it wobbly as fook ! if you add thicker ARBs say good buy to 30% of your rear wheel grip !
solution
LSD
Suspension
ARBs
Mounts
fitting
buy buy big chunk of money

If we could get jobs where we can earn more money than we did now, i would be sorely tempted.
